Job SummaryThe “CAD - Senior Engineer” will be based in Taiwan, reporting to Layout Manager.
Implements design tasks utilizing CAD design techniques and tools. This job category covers both CAD designers implementing high density, surface mount printed circuit boards as well as CAD designers implementing Mechanical designs and A-Surface-Data. The designer may be skilled in one or both disciplines. The role may also include the evaluation of prototype products or samples.
Principal Accountabilities for PCB Designers:
- Assists Electrical Design Engineers in the development of state-of-the-art designs of new or modified, low to high-density, complex, printed circuit boards.
- Works from preliminary schematics, parts lists and basic description of the board function, configuration and arrangement as defined by engineering.
- Closely contributes with internal DFX teams to develop a physical layout that optimizes for manufacturability and test.
- Maintains technical coordination with Flex's manufacturing groups and the customer's engineers.
- Establishes design standards and configuration.
- Manages constraints and implements requirements.
- In charge of the Symbol and Footprint generation.
- Manage product flow through the tool chain and address any tool issues.
- Provides ECAD tool expertise.
- May perform evaluation activities on prototype samples.
Principal Accountabilities for Mechanical Designers:
- Assists Mechanical Design Engineers in the development of state-of-the-art designs of new or modified, low to high-density, complex, mechanical enclosures.
- Works from preliminary mechanical models, parts lists and basic description of the enclosure function, configuration and arrangement as defined by engineering.
- In charge of the design and detail piece parts and assemblies of the design from inception to production.
- Captures the design in a mechanical CAD tool creating detailed 3D models and 2D dimensioned drawings.
- Contributes with internal manufacturing teams to develop detailed designs that are optimized for manufacturability and assembly.
- Maintains technical coordination with Flex's manufacturing groups and the customer's engineers.
- Holds up establishment of design standards and configuration.
- Manage product flow through the tool chain and address any tool issues.
- Provides MCAD tool expertise.
- May perform evaluation activities on prototype samples.
Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience and training.
- Typically requires 3+ years of CAD design experience.
- Demonstrates technical skills and comprehension of CAD tools and design values and practice.
- Ability to perform the major job controls using Flex policies and procedures.
- Has comprehension of the manufacturing process and ability to make design improvements to the process using CAD equipment.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and apply mathematical operations to research and ensure the robustness of assigned designs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
