Description

The Network Security Engineer II is responsible for protecting Harbor Freight Tools' digital assets by designing, implementing, managing and monitoring network security systems and tools.  Additionally, this person represents Information Security to other departments, ensuring that corporate networks are securely designed and implemented.  Examples of systems that this person may be responsible for include firewalls, IDS/IPS and VPN systems.  As a Network Security Engineer II, this person is also expected to mentor others on the team.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide firewall and network security solutions for all areas of the infrastructure.
  • Provide IT network security risk management guidance to the organization.
  • Design, implement, manage, monitor, and troubleshoot network security defense and monitoring tools, including configuration management, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and monitoring systems and tools.
  • Proactively identify, define, and implement new security controls as necessary.
  • Provide analysis of emerging threats as needed.
  • Clearly and effectively document and communicate both existing and proposed solutions and configurations, including producing data flow diagrams, logical diagrams, physical diagrams, and standard operating procedure documents as required.
  • Work as a liaison between Information Security and IT to ensure proper implementation of security controls, standards and policies.
  • Manage and maintain technical controls and processes for compliance purposes, including PCI compliance.
  • Assist IT with remediation planning and implementation.
  • Develop, enhance and execute operational security processes, including incident and event handling.
  • Run engineering projects with some oversight.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of security controls.
  • After hours work, shift work, and on-call pager may be required.

Requirements

Job Qualifications – Education and Experience
  • Solid understanding of network security and firewall concepts, principles and practices
  • Experience with network intrusion protection solutions, firewalls, packet capture/analysis, network routing/switching, TCP/IP addressing design/troubleshooting, and VPN solutions.
  • Ability to develop risk-based, prioritized action plans to improve overall security and risk posture.
  • Experience with process, procedure, and standards development.
  • Experience implementing complex technical security solutions.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong team player with a “can do” attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
  • At least two years of information security experience, with strong preference for engineering.
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university with a major course work in Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Security training and certifications (CISSP, SANS/GIAC, CEH, OSCP, CCNA, or similar) preferred.
