Description

The Payroll Specialist is responsible in helping with the preparation and processing of the bi-weekly payroll.  Track and deduct all garnishments and other special payroll deductions.  Auditing and administration of the bi-weekly time and attendance data and ensuring all information is received accurately and timely.  Responsible for all daily activities relating to the payroll process, which includes the auditing and processing of high volume payroll adjustments, manual checks, voids, reissues, stop payments, set up of direct deposit, employment verifications, new hire tax verification, and termination checks.  Analyze research and verify discrepancies to assist the HR, Benefits and Finance Departments.   Requires a strong understanding of multi-state tax laws, local regulations, and Wage and Hour laws and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist employees and management with questions, concerns or requests regarding payroll
  • Manage workflow to ensure all timecards and payroll transactions are processed timely and accurately
  • Perform payroll duties requiring knowledge of standard practices used in the preparation, distribution, and maintenance of payroll and payroll records
  • Review payroll documents for compliance with policies and procedures
  • Review all earnings, deductions and tax calculations in the payroll system
  • Ensure tax compliance in all local jurisdictions
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State wage and hour laws
  • Stay current on regulatory, legal and other payroll developments
  • Process off-cycle check payments according to company policy and federal and state regulations
  • Research and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with employees and other departments
  • Prepare stop payments, void checks, direct deposit reversals and overpayment collection in accordance with company, federal and state regulations
  • Assist with special projects when requested
  • Assist employees with set up in ESS and reset passwords
  • Additional duties as assigned by manager

Requirements

Education (Required)
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance desired.
Skills (Required)
  • 2 - 5  years of experience working in a Payroll Specialist role
  • Experience processing a multi-state payroll for over 5,000 employees
  • CPP or FPC certified highly desired
  • Detailed knowledge Federal and State tax compliance and garnishments
  • Working knowledge of ADP EV5 and Kronos are highly desired
  • Excellent customer service with both internal and external customers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented, accurate and organized
  • Positive work attitude
  • Integrity and ethics that are beyond reproach
  Physical Requirements General office environment requiring ability to:
  • stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time
  • speak and listen to others in person and over the phone
  • use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports
