The Sr. Manager of Product Marketing Field Research will play a crucial role in refining the tools we develop and how we market them to professional and DIY tools users. This position requires extensive fieldwork, interaction with end-users, and the ability to translate practical insights into actionable recommendations for product development and product marketing tactical plan creation. Emphasis will be placed on visualizing data, gaining competitive insights, and ensuring thorough product testing by professionals on jobsites and in shops as well as DIYers at home.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Sr. Manager of Product Marketing Field Research is responsible for directing and executing research aimed at enhancing our product offerings and how we market our products to ensure they meet the high standards of our professional and DIY tool users. The role will involve extensive collaboration with cross-functional teams to align on areas to test, hypotheses to investigate and strategic recommendations to develop.           
Responsibilities and duties will include:           

  • Conduct thorough field research and testing of new and existing tools in various environments and conditions, with a focus on meeting end-users in their environments             
  • Identify and engage professional tool users, including contractors and those in the automotive trades, and DIYers to gather feedback and understand user needs, shopping behaviors and trends          
  • Collect, analyze, and visualize qualitative and quantitative data to assess tool performance and durability vs. competitors for marketing purposes           
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive products to provide insights for marketing strategies  
  • Prepare detailed presentations summarizing research findings, insights, and actionable recommendations for marketing campaigns         
  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing and Merch teams to integrate field research insights into marketing strategies and tactical campaigns     
  • Maintain detailed documentation of field research processes and outcomes to support marketing initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including end-users, QA engineers & product experts, and Marketing & Merchandising team members, to relay findings and suggestions for product assortment, positioning, and messaging.              
  • Ensure all field research activities comply with Harbor Freight corporate values and brand standards

Requirements

Education and Experience

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field

Years of Experience
  • 10+ years of conducting field research, preferably in a product marketing capacity within the tool or related industries.

Skills
  • Strong technical understanding of tools and equipment used in professional trades and by DIYers
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and visualization software and tools
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed marketing recommendations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders, including end-users and marketing teams.
  • Strong project management skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and conduct field research in various conditions.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive products.
  • Experience in designing and executing field experiments and tests.
  • Ability to prepare detailed reports and presentations for marketing purposes.
  • A proactive self-starter who can anticipate needs and keep projects moving forward
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Office
