HOK, a global architecture, design, engineering, and planning firm, is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our firmwide Communications team. This is a hybrid position based in our St. Louis office, with an on-site presence required Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
As a Communications Specialist, you'll play a key role in shaping how HOK communicates with both internal and external audiences. You'll work closely with firm leaders, designers, and marketing professionals to develop content that aligns with HOK's business and brand strategy—telling the stories behind our people, projects, and purpose.
Key responsibilities include:-
Writing articles, news releases, internal announcements, social media posts, and other communications content

Leading the development, editing, and production of editorial projects

Creating and maintaining content onHOK.com and across the firm's social media platforms

Collaborating with firm leaders and subject matter experts to prepare thought leadership pieces, project narratives, and award submittals

Monitoring publishing and digital content trends to evolve and protect the HOK brand

Supporting the coordination and execution of communications strategies and campaigns

Assisting with internal communications efforts, including announcements, presentations, and firmwide updates

Helping ensure all content reflects HOK's voice, values, and visual identity
We are seeking a strong writer and strategic storyteller who can translate complex ideas into compelling messages. The ideal candidate will have excellent editorial judgment, a passion for storytelling, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Experience in architecture, design, real estate, or a related industry is helpful but not required. A successful candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
You should also have a solid understanding of digital communications, content publishing, and brand voice, along with a curiosity about the built environment and the people who shape it.
What kind of education and experience are required?A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is required. Candidates should have 3 or more years of professional writing or content development experience, ideally within a design, media, or communications-focused role.
Experience working with content management systems (e.g., WordPress), email platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), and social media is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, and Photoshop is expected. Familiarity with basic HTML, SEO, or photo/video editing is a plus.
Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location. The reasonably expected range for this position in St. Louis is $62,000 to $75,000. Other compensation may include a discretionary bonus.
