Your Role
The role of a Sr. Interior designer is to be visionary designer with a passion for sharing your knowledge, transforming spaces and creating stunning environments.  We're looking for a Sr. Interior Designer who thrives on collaboration and innovation and is eager to work with clients and teams to bring exceptional designs to life. As a Sr. Interior Designer, you'll be responsible for interpreting, organizing, and executing the conceptual design of projects. Your creativity, foresight, and judgment will be key in meeting project requirements and objectives, ensuring that every design is both functional and beautiful.

Your responsibilities:

  • Design Lead: Leads design efforts in all phases. May provide support to all team members for specific field, style, or phase of interior design expertise. Implements and utilize HOK Standards for all projects and processes.
  • Client Relations: Maintaining positive relationships with clients and keeping them informed of project progress.
  • Team Collaboration: Fosters a commitment to the team. Assists the team in communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary.
  • Mentorship & Development: Mentor and direct the emerging staff and engage in “Lessons Learned” sessions. Contributes to staff performance evaluations.  May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.
  • Client Presentations: Preparing and conducting presentations to clients.
  • Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical Thinking: Addressing and resolving design and construction issues.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and client needs.
  • Programming and Space Planning: Conducts programming efforts, space planning, and layout.
  • Concept Development: Develops innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe, and conducive to intended purposes and function, reflective of client goals and within project budget.
  • Visualization: Renders conceptual design ideas and creates 2D and 3D presentations.
  • Color Theory: Proficiency in coordinating color palettes and materials.
  • Documentation: Ability to prepare, correct, and update design documents across all phases.
  • Time Management: Keeps the project or phase of a project on schedule and manages multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Budgeting: Estimating material requirements and preliminary costs accurately.
  • Design Software Proficiency: Expertise in tools such as, SketchUp, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Code Knowledge: Review documents for adherence to building codes and ADA.
  • Material Knowledge: Understanding of various materials, durability, applications, finishes, and furnishings. Supports the Construction Administration phase responding to RFIs, COs, and reviews shop drawings.
  • Sustainable Design: Knowledge of sustainable design principles and practices. Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.

 

Required education and experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in architecture, interior design or foreign equivalent
  • 7 plus years' experience in interiors workplace projects required.
  • Project size range 30,000 SF plus.
  • Must be a professional Interior Designer and have passed the NCIDQ exam or be a registered Architect with current license required.
  • If registered architect, NCARB registration is preferred.
  • LEED credential requested within 12 months of employment.

 

Other details

  • Travel will be required.
  • Overtime will be required.

  • Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location.  The reasonably expected annual salary range for this position in Washington D.C. is $95,000-$120,000.
