HOK is currently seeking a Structural Engineering Modeler to join our growing team in Houston, TX.  Be a part of a fun, friendly, and dynamic team as we continue our success in the Texas market!

As a Structural Engineering Modeler, you will be perform engineering modeling assignments in Revit and other BIM tools based on input from the structural engineering team and guidance from the Senior Structural Modeler.  You will also be responsible for the setup and maintenance of BIM models for the structural tam, modeling building structure, drafting details based on engineering markups, linkage of models associated with other disciplines for coordination purposes, and ensuring model accuracy.  In this way you will support other members of the structural team with production, management and delivery of drawings and data within the BIM model environment as well as support the needs of the multi-discipline team at large.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Note that for the following list of responsibilities the term “model” refers to a building information model, and for most projects Revit will be the platform used.)

  • Set up structural models based on the project architectural model using developed templates.
  • Develop, modify and review models, plans, details and drawings of structural engineering systems and components according to established standards and Revit modeling techniques, based on input (sketches, layouts and verbal instructions) from the structural engineering team.
  • Assist project teams in coordination with other disciplines, including clash detection and conflict resolution with MEP and other building systems.
  • Ensure that drawings produced are clear, organized, and free of modeling, drafting and spelling errors.
  • Check Revit models for clearances, potential conflicts, and relationships of the various parts to the whole and to one another.
  • Print/Plot drawings.
  • Maintain Revit families.
  • Perform quality audit checks on title blocks, layers, fonts, line types.
  • Ensure BIM standards and guidelines are followed.
  • Use client and construction management systems for the delivery and sharing of documents and drawings.
  • Organize and maintain models and documents for multiple projects.
  • Work closely with project team and assist to complete projects on aggressive schedules.
  • Perform all work in a clear, complete, and accurate manner.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience in applying modeling principles for complete and accurate drawings.
  • Produce drawing charts for schedules and data, make changes and adjustments as necessary with input from the structural engineering team as required.
  • Implement and utilize HOK Best Practices for all projects and processes.
  • Actively seek new knowledge related to structural engineering practices, principles and regulations changes.
  • Participate in local professional associations or Revit/BIM user groups and attend conferences as determined by HOK to be appropriate.
  • Take personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices
  • Travel may be required.
  • Overtime may be required.
Required Skills
  • Understanding of basic Revit functions, techniques, and automated processes including modeling, drawing setup, and plotting.
  • Basic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of structural models, plans and details.
  • Proficiency in Revit required, proficiency in BIM and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required.
  • Basic knowledge about sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines preferred.
  • Organized and able to handle multiple responsibilities and projects in order to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to learn and perform standard computer modeling functions using Revit and be able to identify and help work to resolve design conflicts.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in a related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of Revit structural modeling experience working on a wide variety of building types and sizes, such as commercial, corporate, institutional and civic, justice, aviation and healthcare facilities required.

  • LEED credential required within 6 months of employment.
