Job Title:  Senior Systems Engineer – Tysons, Long Beach, Chicago, or Atlanta

 

Your impact 

We are seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Senior Linux Engineer to join our dynamic IT System Engineering team.  As a Senior Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining our Linux-based infrastructure, ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of our systems. You will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and supporting Linux solutions, as well as providing technical leadership within the team.  Your expertise in Linux technologies, combined with your leadership skills, will guide our team in achieving high-performance, secure, and scalable solutions that align with industry best practices and strategic objectives.

What you will do 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, standards, and integration strategies 
  • Analyze existing Linux infrastructure to identify opportunities for optimization in terms of performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
  • Manage and support virtualization environments, ensuring efficient utilization of resources
  • Oversee the implementation of Linux-based solutions, ensuring seamless configuration, integration, and adherence to design principles
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure successful deployment within specified timelines
  • Implement robust security measures and industry best practices to fortify Linux systems against security threats and vulnerabilities
  • Conduct security assessments and audits to maintain a secure operating environment.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends, advancements, and emerging technologies in the Linux ecosystem
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance Linux capabilities
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, network engineers, and security experts, to deliver integrated solutions
  • Design, implement, and manage scalable Kubernetes clusters to ensure high availability and optimal performance of containerized applications
  • Create comprehensive system documentation, including architectural diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures
  • Collaborate with development teams to automate deployment process using Kubernetes and maintain the infrastructure through continuous integration and monitoring

 Your required experience/skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Linux system engineering, with a strong track record of designing and implementing complex Linux-based systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems (Red Hat, Oracle Linux) and and associated technologies
  • Profound understanding of system architecture, design patterns, and integration methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and services within a Linux environment
  • Experience with managing and scaling Kubernetes clusters in production environments (Rancher, OpenShift, AKS)
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) to manage and enforce system configurations
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • This role is subject to ITAR: Candidate must be a US Person (this includes US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protect Indvidual such as an asylee or refugee)

  • Articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, fostering a shared understanding and collaboration
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze situations, identify challenges, and propose creative solutions, showcasing adaptability and resilience in dynamic work environments
  • Work seamlessly within cross-functional teams, building positive relationships and contributing to a collaborative atmosphere that encourages knowledge sharing and collective success

It would be nice if you had: 

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation, customization, and system administration
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and the ability to integrate Linux systems integration of collaboration tools, such as messaging platforms and video conferencing systems
  • Proficient in managing and maintaining virtualized environments and utilizing technologies like VMware for efficient resource utilization
