Calibration Technician - RF Experience

Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions to many of the world's leading brands and companies, is searching for a Calibration Technician - RF Experience to join our Electrical team in our Plano, Texas office. 

Intertek's Electrical team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification for a variety of electric products, including appliances, consumer electronics, lighting, medical devices, information communications technology, HVACR, industrial, and energy transmission and distribution. Our dedicated professionals help ensure the quality, safety, and sustainability of electrical products used by people throughout the world.

What are we looking for?

The Calibration Technician position, using approved Standard Operating Procedures and/or Manufacturer's Manuals will calibrate, troubleshoot and/or repair Length, Mass, Volumetric, Time, Pressure, Thermodynamic and loop-based Assets that support Manufacturing and Laboratory Processes while maintaining conformance to GMP and international measurement standards.

What you'll do:

  • Perform calibration, diagnostic and preventative maintenance on instrumentation and/or equipment with little to no supervision.
  • Able to conduct calibration work at customer on-sites with little to no direction.
  • Identify and utilize appropriate measurement techniques.
  • Coordinate the repair of instrumentation and calibration of equipment with 3rd Party Vendors.
  • Ensure timely turn-around time on all instrumentation and equipment calibration services.
  • Conduct equipment review following the return of calibrated equipment.
  • Maintain accurate calibration records and standards.
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance of equipment is performed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintain and review Calibration Certificates.
  • Perform or assist in performing suspect equipment investigations. 
  • May assist with writing and/or updating procedures to ensure efficiency, standardization, and accuracy.
  • Understand and apply uncertainties to measurements made.
  • Typical 40-hour work week with occasional need for extended hours and weekend work.
  • Be able to read and interpret labs' scopes of accreditation.
  • May occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Document calibration activities in accordance with ISO 17025 Practices.
  • Perform other work as required.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • 5 years applicable experience in calibration
  • Ability to use mechanical and electrical tools and instrumentation necessary to complete the tasks outlined above.
  • Basic understanding of the 7 SI units of measurement.
  • Adheres to Safety Policies, Quality Policies and Practice.
  • Proficient use of a personal computer and knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Intermediate math skills, including algebra, geometry and statistics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
    • Ability to travel, up to 50% to various client and Intertek sites.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have dexterity to handle small fragile objects.
  • Ability to lift 25kg (50lbs) repeatedly.
  • Ability to withstand long periods of walking/standing.
  • Ability to work in enclosed and/or elevated spaces.
  • Ability to wear a respirator.

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Formal training in Metrology.
  • Knowledge of ANSI/NCSLZ540 or ISO 17025 specifications.
  • Previous experience with electrical, mechanical and thermal dynamic calibrations.
  • Experience with radio frequency calibration.
