Chemical Support Technician - 1st Shift - San Antonio, TX

What are we looking for?

This Support Technician position is responsible for assisting production staff with completion of assigned tasks. Tasks are related to the performance of chemical and physical analysis on petroleum products and may include specific assignments related to sample handling and preparation, inventory, filling and disposing of solvents, assisting with looking for client samples and general housekeeping.

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 7:00AM-3:30pm

The wage or salary range for this position is $13.40  per hour plus a shift differential . Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.  (Include this paragraph if salary information is required or optionally provided.)

What you'll do: 

  • Performs those functions necessary for the performance of testing such as sample collection and preparation, cleaning of glassware and test equipment, refilling the solvents and solutions, preparation of reagents and materials.
  • Responsible for maintaining sample system, including stand sample release, sample organization, and sample storage and disposal functions.
  • Fills work orders for internal customers
  • Responsible for daily disposal of hazardous waste and for daily refilling of solvents used for testing
  • Responsible for Chemistry Lab general supply inventory.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and orderliness of sample storage, hazardous materials storage, personal work area and the common-use areas of the lab.
  • To carry out the above responsibilities, and all others which may be assigned, in a manner demonstrating support for and adherence to the Company's Safety Policy and Procedures, Quality Policy and Procedures, Ethics Policy, Environmental Management System, Vision and Strategy, and to exercise good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Must complete Hazardous Communication within 30 days of working in the lab.
  • Must complete Hazardous Waste handling training prior to disposing of hazardous waste (employer to provide)
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, legible handwriting and good observation skills (employer to provide)
  • Must be a team player with a “can do” attitude.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and ask questions to clarify instruction, as needed.
  • Microsoft Office experience, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work overtime as business needs dictate, including afterhours operational assistance.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 49 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Exposure to various chemicals requiring special handling precautions and the use of safety equipment, including the use of respirator equipment.
