Project & Testing Specialist – Cleveland, Ohio

Intertek's Building Science Solutions (BSS) group is primarily focused on building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and field performance testing for new construction and retrofit projects.

What are we looking for?

The Project Specialist will support project managers and senior team members to ensure the success of our projects during various phases of design, construction and performance testing. The work will include coordination/testing for new construction projects, new construction enclosure consulting during design and construction phases, and evaluation, investigation, and repairs for existing buildings. This position may travel frequently within and outside the local area, depending on workloads and project locations; estimate is 25%-70%.

Shift/Schedule: Monday – Friday, core business hours, occasional weekend work, if required.

What you'll do:

  • Manage, coordination, scheduling and lead field performance testing and water leakage testing of roofing and waterproofing systems, windows, curtain walls, and other building elements.
  • Perform / lead field performance testing and water leakage testing of roofing and waterproofing systems, windows, curtain walls, and other building elements
  • Perform select consulting and construction administration services (including quality inspections and site visits) during construction projects.
  • Assist with or lead diagnostic and forensic investigations and documentation of existing conditions including wall claddings, windows, curtain wall systems, roofs, skylights, plaza waterproofing and below grade elements, etc.
  • Assist in and eventually perform the preparation of professionally written field reports.
  • Learn to perform building enclosure reviews of architectural drawings, shop drawings and submittals
  • Learn to assist with remediation design of building enclosures
  • Learn to prepare sketches and details using hand-drawn details and AutoCAD techniques.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of Enclosure Consulting, Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management experience required or 20+ years in a related commercial building enclosure trade. 
  • Technical knowledge of building construction and building enclosure systems 
  • Able to read and understand architectural and engineering drawings and specifications, as well as contractor shop drawings
  • Experience in construction, glazing, roofing or general construction, preferred
  • Must be technically competent to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results and possess a mechanical aptitude
  • Must be familiar with Quality Assurance policies and procedures 
  • Assist with and eventually prepare reports for inspection and testing work
  • Construction administration, progress observation and site inspections
  • Maintain building construction documents
  • Work with Clients, Project Managers and Project teams to schedule inspections and testing
  • Coordinate testing and inspections schedule with equipment schedule and other department testing
  • Maintain testing equipment calibrations.   
  • Learn or maintain latest test standards and test procedures (e.g., AAMA, ASTM, etc.)
  • Maintain tools and equipment; inventory supplies; manage testing group
  • Communicate/coordinate with senior project managers for internal QA review
  • Communicate/coordinate with clients regarding test preparation, procedures, and results
  • Participate in project progress and scheduling meetings as needed. 
  • Assist in the sales and marketing of testing services to new and potential clients
  • Assist department admin in invoicing for all assigned projects
  • Perform other work as required

  • Ability to travel frequently within and outside the local area, depending on workloads and project locations. Estimate 25%-70% travel time
  • Fluent in English for the safe and effective performance of the job (required)
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Degree in a technical field desired, or equivalent related experience
