Description

Communications Intern: Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, Summer/Fall 2025

In coordination with Iowa Select Farms, the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation is seeking a communications intern for Summer and Fall of 2025. We're seeking junior or senior-level candidates pursuing degrees in communications, public relations, journalism, photography, or magazine media, with a background in agriculture preferred.

The position will be based out of West Des Moines, Iowa. Our summer internship program requires 40 hours a week while our fall internship requires 20 hours a week. The selected candidate will earn $14/hr. Must have housing and reliable transportation.

In this role, the communications intern will have the opportunity to work on various communication projects and events for the philanthropic efforts of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation operates unique programs and projects that provide food to struggling Iowa families and children, show gratitude to Armed Forces members and strengthen efforts to find a cure for childhood cancers while improving the quality of life for impacted families.

The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation was established in 2006 by the owners of Iowa Select Farms and is dedicated to positively impacting fellow Iowans' lives. Founded and privately owned by Iowa Falls natives Jeff and Deb Hansen, Iowa Select Farms has grown to be the largest family-owned pork production company in the U.S. With nearly 800 swine farms across the state, Iowa Select Farms is one of the leading economic engines to Iowa's rural communities. The company employs 1,200 people, partners with more than 650 farmers and supports nearly 1,700 local businesses throughout the state.

The focus of this internship will be event management and execution, feature story writing, social media content development and photography. Thus, qualified applicants must be accountable, organized, and excellent writers with strong attention to detail.

Prior experience developing press releases and content for online and social media platforms is a plus. This position includes coordinating and attending 12-14 community events which may require evening and weekend availability.

Students pursuing degrees in journalism, magazine media, public relations and photography are strongly encouraged to apply.
