TITLE: Truck Wash Biosecurity Technician                                                                     

REPORTS TO: Truck Wash Biosecurity Supervisor

PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

  • To Ensure that market semi-trucks and trailers meet Iowa Select Farms bio-security guidelines. This includes inspection of trucks and trailers post wash and assisting in the movement of semi-tractors and trailers around the truck wash as needed.  

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor all aspects of the washing and disinfecting process.
  • Ensure the wash bay is cleaned, and disinfected between each washing.
  • Inspect all trailers, trucks and tractors post-cleaning and order re-cleaning when necessary. (Rewash trailers that have been down for more than one week.)
  • Ensure trailers and vehicles are equipped with functional tools and supplies.
    1. Clean boots and coveralls
    2. Sort panels – free of any cracks at the base
    3. Rattle paddles – intact with BB's
  • Conduct quality control tests as required by management.
  • Monitor upkeep of exterior grounds, including used wood chip storage.
  • Stocking dryer bags with clean chips
  • Understand and schedule the flow of trucks and trailers through the wash in an efficient manner to meet transport schedules.
  • Drive semi-tractor and trailer on grounds to move in and out of wash bays and in the parking lot.
  • Ability to work cross-departmentally with other support departments as needed.

  • Compliance with Iowa Select Farms safety policies and procedures which includes continuous education to maintain a safe work environment. 
  • Follow Iowa Select Farms animal wellbeing policy at all times and partner with the Production Well-being team in a timely manner if an incident occurs.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is performed indoors and outdoors.
  • This position may require some tasks to be performed in extreme outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.  
  • The environment you will be working in can have nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in the winter months. 

 

PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.  
  • Ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds and climb in and out of trailers that are 48 inches in height. 

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position that will require a minimum of 40 hours per week. 
  • Expected days and hours of operation include day-shift hours Monday-Fridays 
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges.

TRAVEL

  • Local travel might be occasionally required for this position through the utilization of a company vehicle. 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.  
  • Agricultural background and/or knowledge of Industry is preferred. 
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
