Kamehameha Schools is searching for three (3) Kumu (Instructors) to teach our afternoon summer program! If you have experience in Hawaiian culture-based education, sustainability or school gardens or enjoy being on your feet, teaching students in various huakaʻi locations everyday, this is the perfect opportunity for you! This is a temporary, seasonal position based on operational need.
Hire Dates: 6/4 - 7/11
Tentative Schedule: M-F, 10:00am - 4:00pm

Job Summary
Creates and implements a high quality summer school instructional program within subject area. In-person and digital student management including assessment of student progress and achievement to meet program goals. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develops lesson plans and instructs in a designated subject area or grade level to meet the Summer Program goals including coordinating any activities outside of the classroom or off-campus.
- Assesses student progress and achievement and modifies instruction according to the needs of students so that students are able to demonstrate growth and acquisition of academic goals. Grades and distributes a mid and final report card for students when applicable.
- Models mutual respect and enforces the summer school rules and regulations in a positive and formative manner.
- Communicates with students, parents and the Summer School Administration Team as necessary to inform of student progress and any other academic or social issues that may arise.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or directly related field.
- Ability to teach, preferably in the subject area.
- Knowledge and ability to work with similarly-aged children.
- Knowledge of various online learning tools to include training, troubleshooting, and support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Summer school or online teaching experience.
- Experience with similarly aged children.
- Previous teaching experience in subject or grade level.
- Experience with cultural based education.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
- Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
- This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
- Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
