Student Research Assistants Needed!
This summer program (in collaboration with KS Summer School) begins on June 8, 2026 and will run through July 24, 2026.
During this program, you will learn from kumu and an AI expert from Georgia Tech. You will also design and build real-world solutions that use AI to help solve 'aina-based issues.
This program will be in collaboration with Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi - Kauluhala Summer Program and will allow you to earn credits while gaining valuable ‘ike for your future career in computer science, environmental science or any 'aina-based/research field. Work / learning will take place on campus, at Kumuola and at Georgia Tech.
This program is open to current KS High School 9th, 10th & 11th graders.
Selected haumana must be able to travel to Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA on 6/20 – 7/2.
Job Summary
Participates in department-related projects in accordance with the expectations and parameters of the structured internship program. This role provides students the opportunity to develop and apply new and existing skills in a practical, real-world setting. Through these experiences, the individual gains exposure to organizational operations and builds foundational professional knowledge under general supervision.
Essential Responsibilities
Completes variety of tasks in accordance with program guidelines within assigned department(s).
Receives training, guidance, and mentoring as part of the internship experience while completing assigned projects and tasks.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the requirements listed.
Currently enrolled in high school.
Ability to take direction and complete tasks as assigned.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Proficient in the use of the PC/Mac and standard office software

Physical Requirements
Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
