POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Workforce Training and Development Specialist plans and administers programs that improve the skills and knowledge of the Methodist Hospital of Southern California employees.  As part of the Workforce Training and Development Department, the specialist delivers services and programs for the Hospital's clinical workforce with a focus on compliance, safety, quality, and service excellence.  The Workforce Training and Development Specialist supports the goals of the Hospital's Workforce Training and Development Department which are as follows: (1) create a learning environment that encourages continuous learning, (2) provide learning content that motivates hospital personnel to develop new skills, (3) assist employees in adopting to changes in the delivery of care (4) continuously increase job competency across the workforce, and (5) assisting in the delivery of customer service excellence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in selecting, scheduling and assisting outside instructors for selected programs (i.e., ACLS, BLS, PALS)
  • Utilizes Andragogy learning theories to assess and develop workforce educational content and programs including for full life cycle learning and development for the clinical workforce including: (a) research, development and delivery of evidence based learning (b) creation of learning content, (c) assist in performance management, and (d) assist in unit quality data analytics reporting and  hospital wide corrective actions.
  • Utilizes the learning system, process, and methodology will carry out the following cyclical and reoccurring activities (a) Staff Onboarding, (b) Staff Development (c) Management Development (d) Skills Day, and (e) Education Day
  • Assist unit-based Med/Surg education liaisons in development and delivery of unit-based learning, unit-based orientation, ongoing skills development, and performance management of the unit's clinical staff.
  • Oversee hospital-wide unit-based competencies for assigned clinical units.
  • Develop and assist with a competency-based orientation program to prepare new nursing/clinical staff to provide safe and effective patient care in the assigned work areas, including new grad RNs.
  • Collaborate with vendors for in-services.
  • Ensures compliance with required learning and program content including annual mandatory education for all employees.
  • Coordinates annual Workforce Competency Review Program and Annual Learning Needs Assessment
  • Delivers General and Clinical Hospital orientation for all new hires.
  • Serves as the change management consultant for Hospital leaders.
  • Serves as a course facilitator for selected workshops, delivers presentations, and leads training activities.
  • Participates in developing the Hospitals annual education schedule.
  • Assists in service excellence program development for new hires and existing employees.
  • Assesses training and development needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and communication with managers, and instructors.
  • Creates, organizes, plans, and presents various forms of onboarding, orientation, and skills training for employees.
  • Develops unique training programs to fulfill workers specific needs to maintain or improve job skills.
  • Creates and/or acquires training procedure manuals, guides, and course materials.
  • Presents training and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, lecture, simulations, and videos.
  • Maintains records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements.
  • Assesses training materials prepared by training liaisons.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback.
  • Maintains knowledge of the latest trends in training and development.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as monitoring costs, scheduling classes, setting up systems and equipment, and coordinating enrollment.

Education Minimum (Required) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Preferred (Not required) Master of Science in Nursing, Education or related field Work Experience Minimum (Required) 2 years of previous related experience, 5 years of clinical experience Licenses and Certifications Minimum (Required) • Current RN Licensure in the State of California • ACLS • BLS Preferred (Not required) Certification in specialty, nursing education (CNE), or nursing professional development (NPD-BC) Pay Transparency The annual salary range for this position is $107,960.32 - $141,697.92.
