Description
The Administrative Manager for Perioperative Services is a professional with primary responsibility for educational programs for Perioperative Services. Patient care and services are carried out in collaboration with Service Line Coordinators, Ancillary manager, hospital administration and the medical staff and in compliance with organizational goals and appropriate regulatory agency requirements. Manages daily operations of assigned units; promotes a positive and professional environment; holds supervisory responsibilities; maintains adequate and productive staffing; collaborates with staff to meet or exceed quality and patient safety goals through shared governance.
Essential Duties:
- Leader • Seek opportunities to develop staff in various roles • Oversee and actively participate in hiring and training of all staff. • Establishes departmental goals and priorities. • Assesses performance and provides feedback. • Counsels or disciplines as needed. • Integrates ethical principles in all aspects of practice • Serves as a role model for education and professional nursing practice • Role models and promotes the concept of life long learning • Leads committees, work groups and/or projects related to the implementation of educational activities Promotes excellence and safety • Facilitates orientation of new staff to the organization • Facilitates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation • Ensures the development of evidence-based educational materials • Promotes a safe and healthy work environment • Responds to changes in nursing practice and develops programs to support those changes • Ensures that educational programs are congruent with organizational missions, values, and goals • Interprets and communicates across multiple disciplines • Responsible for formulating program outcomes and designing curricula that reflect contemporary health care trends • Establishes system(s) for learning events to ensure that they meet the established goals and objectives. • Uses available education resources (Subject Matter Experts, Regional Education Managers, approved standardized education, developed tools and templates) to develop and deliver education efficiently. • Establishes and maintains performance improvement and quality control activities which support the department and hospital. • Participates in planning of operational budget and goal setting for the nursing department and for own unit of responsibility. • Capital equipment needs are identified with accurate preparation of evaluation scales and CER forms.
- Consultant • Serves as an educational consultant to facilities, task forces, committees, and projects relating to policy, procedure and program development • Responses to regulatory mandates for research and management of sentinel events • Responds to identified needs of Keck Medicine to promote quality patient care and safety • Collaborates with interprofessional team to recommend educational strategies for the implementation clinical standards, regulatory standards, quality patient care and safety initiatives • Supports staff development with educational activities (which includes certification, mentoring, life support, product rollouts) • Supports staff competency with educational activities including the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and remediation.
- Educator • Identifies and evaluates instructional materials in all types of media and formats. • Adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate learner needs • Provides educational opportunities that benefit nurses at all stages of their career development • Consults with staff regarding individual learning needs • Develops core education to address population specific nursing care • Develops core education for the development of nursing leaders (formal and informal) • Assists learners in the assessment of needs and identification of outcomes • Incorporates principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs • Develops/coordinates core education to address patient population specific nursing care • Develops/coordinates core education for the development of beside leaders • Plans, prepares and maintains materials for use in educational programs for accuracy and relevance to the target audience • Identifies and evaluates instructional materials in all types of media and formats • Adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate learner needs • Provides educational opportunities that benefit nurses at all stages of their career development • Delivers competence based programs for nursing staff with a focus upon improvement of skills and retention of knowledge • Develops evidence-based educational materials • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programming • Prepares short and long term planning and programs to address identified needs • Facilitates orientation of new staff to the organization • Facilitates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation • Ensures the development of evidence-based educational materials • Facilitates the adult learning process, creating a climate which supports learning across the health system.
- Researcher • Supports the integration of research into practice • Provides information to document effectiveness of role as a staff development educator • Incorporates current educational evidence into individual practice as a staff development expert. • Conducts and/or contributes to nursing research • Interprets, communicates, and incorporates research findings into program planning
Required Qualifications:
- Req Bachelor's degree Nursing Graduate of a state approved school of Registered Nursing.
- Req 2 years In management or nursing leadership position in the perioperative area.
- Req 4 years Experience as an OR RN

Preferred Qualifications:
- Pref Master's degree Nursing Master's Degree in Nursing or related field, or in progress, strongly preferred * Master's Degree in Nursing may be in lieu-of Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Req Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing)
- Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
- Req Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Req Certified Perioperative Registered Nurse - CNOR (AORN)
The annual base salary range for this position is $133,120.00 - $219,648.00.
