Position Title: Analytical Chemist
Location: Emeryville, CA (San Francisco Bay Area)
Pay Range: $108,000 - $125,000 per year
Overview:
Our client transforms waste industrial CO2 into feed and food system ingredients through industrial biotechnology and biological innovation.
Responsibilities:
- Manage analytical chemistry activities both internally and with external contract laboratories.
- Execute analytical methods, sample preparation, operate HPLC, GC, and LCMS instrumentation, and perform data analysis.
- Perform analytical method development, optimization, and validation using HPLC, GC, and LCMS.
- Author, prepare, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) if necessary.
- Efficiently troubleshoot analytical equipment to minimize downtime and resolve analytical and equipment issues.
- Provide analytical technical expertise and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define strategies and establish sampling plans.
- Maintain precise, detailed, accurate, and comprehensive records of all analysis steps in a lab notebook.
- Prepare, present, and clearly communicate results and strategies to managers and at internal/external meetings.
- Research scientific literature and external sources to identify suitable analytical techniques and stay informed about scientific principles and concepts.
- Adhere to common lab safety practices and foster a positive, high-safety culture.
- BS, MS, or PhD in Chemistry or related field with:
- 6-7 years (BS)
- 4-5 years (MS)
- 0-2 years (PhD) of relevant analytical chemistry experience in an academic/industrial research lab setting.
- Hands-on experience in quantifying and characterizing small molecules derived from microbial fermentations using HPLC, GC, and LCMS.
- Knowledge of maintaining and troubleshooting HPLC, GC, and LCMS instrumentation, including performing basic repairs.
- Expertise in developing analytical methods with suitable validation steps.
- Proficiency with Agilent HPLCs, GCs, and LCMS, plus software proficiency with Agilent ChemStation, OpenLab CDS, and MassHunter is a plus.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required for this position; Client is not able to sponsor employment visas at this time.
