Job Title: Analytical Scientist II

Location: Lancaster, SC
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 per year + 12% bonus potential
Job Type: Direct Hire Opportunity

Summary of the Position:
The Analytical Scientist II will be responsible for developing and validating new analytical methods with minimal supervision. This role also provides technical support to various corporate groups, including Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and International Business. The ideal candidate will be proficient in chromatographic, spectroscopic, and wet chemistry methods, and will be instrumental in ensuring the timely and accurate release of raw materials, finished products, and stability studies.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to Analytical Chemistry (AC) Management.
  • Performs Quality Control testing and data review to support the timely release of products on a weekly basis.
  • Develops, optimizes, and validates scientifically sound analytical methods to ensure effective analysis and prompt release of raw materials, finished products, and stability studies.
  • Proficient in using Empower Software and other laboratory software in a Quality Control environment for chromatographic, spectroscopic methods, as well as wet chemistry techniques.
  • Assesses testing methodologies and their application to different sample matrices and instrumentation, including evaluating results from contract laboratories to ensure adherence to agreed methods and testing parameters.
  • Stays current with technological and scientific trends, serving as an analytical science resource for the team. Provides mentorship and training to chemists in proper execution and interpretation of validation studies.
  • Responsible for hazardous waste management from its point of generation, ensuring compliance with RCRA and SCDHEC regulations, including proper containers, accumulation, labeling, marking, and storage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, following verbal and written instructions to meet company goals and objectives.
  • Communicates effectively with other departments and functions within a team environment.
  • Regular attendance is required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven ability to develop analytical methods for chromatographic, spectroscopic, titrimetric, and wet chemistry analyses.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting laboratory instruments.
  • In-depth knowledge of analytical method development and specification setting for raw materials and finished products.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation such as FTIR, HPLC, ICP, GC, UV-Vis, LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, HPTLC, and associated test methods.
  • Knowledge in the characterization and elucidation of botanical compound structures using spectroscopic methods and Mass Spectrometry.
  • Skilled in selecting analytical columns, reagents, and techniques to design effective analytical methods in a timely manner.
  • Experience in effective sample preparation techniques, such as liquid-liquid extraction, derivatization, and chemical or mechanical manipulation.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques (e.g., data trend analysis and design of experiments) is highly desirable. Proficiency in interpreting laboratory data.
  • Strong understanding of routine laboratory operations and industry regulations.
  • Knowledge of FDA and ICH guidelines, with experience implementing and maintaining adherence to GLP/GMP standards in a pharmaceutical or nutraceutical environment.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field with 10 years of experience in validation and development of analytical methods in a GMP environment, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of technical experience (extensive experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree).
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or nutraceutical industry strongly preferred.
  • Must be willing to work on the bench with the Analytical Chemistry team to accomplish tasks.
