Associate R&D Chemist - Pacoima, CA

Type: Contract to hire
Shift: M-F 8a-5p
Pay Range: $30 - $33/hr



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate strong creativity in product development.
  • Develop and improve products, such as juice concentrates and flavors, tailored to customer or internal requirements.
  • Taste and evaluate all developed products.
  • Assess project feasibility based on organizational capabilities.
  • Perform costing analysis for all developed products.
  • Prepare master formulations and compounding instructions.
  • Draft and submit product specification sheets to customers.
  • Start communicating directly with customers to understand their product development needs.
  • Ensure developed products meet or surpass customer expectations.
  • Provide technical support to customers and brokers as needed.
  • Conduct shelf-life and stability studies to validate product claims.
  • Establish guidelines and procedures for handling outgoing product samples.
  • Support Quality Control and Production during first-time manufacturing of new products.
  • Oversee sample request inquiries in the absence of the R&D Manager.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Take on additional duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 years of experience in R&D Chemistry.
  • Strong sensory abilities in taste and aroma assessment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Supervisory experience or relevant training preferred.
  • Good visual acuity for evaluating sample appearance and operating lab instruments.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel to any company facility as required, sometimes on short notice.
