New England Jewish Academy is a private school located in West Hartford, CT. We are a close-knit group of educators who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of our students. We are seeking a full-time building substitute teacher who is patient, caring, and has a love for teaching.
Position Summary:
The Permanent Full-Time Substitute Teacher is a member of the faculty who is present in school daily and provides instructional and supervisory coverage when teachers are absent. This role ensures continuity of instruction, classroom management, and student support. When not assigned to cover a class, the substitute may assist with small group instruction, student supervision, or office support as directed. Responsibilities: Classroom Instruction & Coverage
- Provide coverage for absent teachers in grades Preschool–8 as assigned.
- Follow lesson plans when available, and implement engaging activities aligned with school
- expectations when they are unavailable.
- Manage the classroom environment to ensure student safety, order, and respect.
- Deliver instruction across subject areas and grade levels with flexibility.
- Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, recess, assemblies, and other
- school settings.
- Support Aftercare as assigned, providing supervision and engaging activities for students.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and support staff regarding student
- needs and classroom updates.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
- Model professionalism and uphold school values and policies.
- Completed Bachelors Degree
- Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience strongly preferred.
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to different teaching environments and subject areas.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Full-time, on-site, Monday through Friday during the academic year.
