Chief Scientific Officer

Salary: $180-240k
Onsite in Salt Lake City, UT Overview
This client is an industry-leading company committed to finding innovative diagnostic solutions to global health challenges. They are developing a PCR test platform designed to detect viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens. The Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) will oversee all aspects of the company's scientific endeavors, including product development, research, and ensuring quality standards. Additionally, the CSO will lead and manage a team of scientists and research staff, directing the overall R&D strategy and driving platform and product launches in the biotech and clinical sectors. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of scientists and support staff to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop research proposals, budgets, and timelines for new projects.
  • Identify new research opportunities and assess potential commercial applications of research findings.
  • Conduct research studies, develop innovative technologies, and contribute to scientific publications.
  • Establish alliances with external organizations that align with the company's research goals.
  • Communicate scientific findings through published research papers and conference presentations.
  • Evaluate and recruit highly qualified scientists and research personnel.
  • Oversee and manage research budgets to align with company goals.
  • Review research proposals, assessing their scientific merit and feasibility.
  • Collaborate across multiple departments to ensure scientific integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive the successful launch of new biotech and clinical products, from R&D through commercialization.
  • Ensure alignment of product development strategies with business goals and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Education:
  • PhD in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or a related field
  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in research, development, and leadership
Skills & Experience:
  • Expertise in PCR assay development and commercialization.
  • Experience in medical device/pharmaceutical quality systems.
  • Proven track record of successfully launching biotech or clinical platforms and products.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and team management abilities.
  • Experience with FDA submissions (510k, EUA, etc.).
  • Knowledge of domestic clinical trial processes.
