Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-
Analyzing and processing complex or technically difficult workers' compensation claims by investigating and gathering information to determine claim exposure; managing claims through well-developed action plans to timely resolution.

Negotiating settlement of claims within designated authority.

Calculating and assigning timely and appropriate reserves; monitoring and maintaining reserve adequacy throughout claim life.

Calculating and paying benefits due; approving and making timely claim payments and adjustments; settling claims within authority.

Preparing necessary state filings within statutory limits.

Managing the litigation process to ensure timely and cost-effective resolution.

Coordinating vendor referrals for investigation and litigation management.

Using cost containment techniques, including strategic vendor partnerships, to reduce claim costs.

Managing claim recoveries, including subrogation, Second Injury Fund recoveries, and Social Security/Medicare offsets.

Reporting claims to excess carriers and responding promptly to requests for direction.

Communicating claim activity with claimants and clients; maintaining professional relationships.

Ensuring claim files are properly documented and coding is correct.

Referring cases as appropriate to supervisors and management.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Supporting the organization's quality programs.

Traveling as required.

5+ years of relevant Workers Compensation claims experience.

Strong knowledge of California Workers Compensation regulations (Public Entity and County of Los Angeles experience a plus).

SIP (Self-Insurance Administrator) Certification preferred.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).

Professional certification as applicable to line of business (preferred).
