Position Overview
  • We're looking for a skilled Millwright to join our team with BASF
  • This position is directly accountable to the Maintenance Supervisor of the Lethbridge Canola Seed Processing Facility for leveraging preventive maintenance and repairs of machinery/equipment in Seed Cleaning, Seed Treating & Packaging, Bulk Seed Shipping & Receiving and Warehouse.
  • Incumbent will utilize skilled maintenance experience to learn and apply reliability procedures and principles. Establish a clear understanding mechanically on the use of equipment/machinery in the different processing areas. As experience and competence is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with more independence.
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in KPI success by keeping downtime to a minimum, complete work orders within the established timelines and keep parts inventory audit ready.
  • Assist in the implementation of a safe, secure, cost effective, quality maintenance program including mechanical installations & repairs for the facility as well as provide process and support equipment for the Lethbridge site.

Responsibilities
 
  • Work on plant equipment to preform preventive maintenance as well as crash maintenance and all other standing work orders.
  • Utilize SAP Work Order system to execute and track preventative maintenance tasks and crash maintenance of all equipment on-site. maintain records in the SAP, this includes time conformations and stores movements for work orders in SAP. And up-loading inspections and notes to work orders.
  • Using lockout/tag out and work permits and SOP work instructions to work safely and to meet all BASF requirements.
  • Review equipment reliability and provide recommendations for improvements.

  • Level of Autonomy/Decision Making Responsibility:
  • Low
 
  • The Maintenance Technician lead works to ensure all mechanical equipment is in good working order and assists in the continuous improvement of plant operations by:
  • Creating solid foundations for equipment on-site and instructing other workers about safe         and efficient interaction with machinery and equipment.
  • Moving equipment to appropriate area for repair or maintenance to avoid contamination and/or workplace safety hazards. - Align and calibrate equipment as required for efficient and safe operation 
 
  • Internal and external relationships (other than supervisor, what other positions does this job interact with and why):
Yard Lead – yard is responsible for all bulk loads in and out.  Also takes care of screenings loads generated by the process.
Upper management – Need status reports to make other decisions that affect the plant and/or business.
Logistics Team – Need status reports to plan on seed supply needed for all treating and packaging (internal and Toller's). Also, for Toller cleaning if we can't make the market demands or for Toller storage to keep the cleaning lines running.
Maintenance Team – Review timelines to complete necessary maintenance/repairs, contact external contractors if needed.
External Contractors – Work with to diagnose problems and find solutions that best fit the cleaning room's needs.
QMS Team – Contact if quality problems are at risk during seed lot cleaning, harvest samples, contra season and inbound trucking.
Certified Seed Production – Agronomists are responsible for the production, sampling and loading of seed lots on farm. Their production is the direct result of how much work we have at the plant.


Qualifications
 
  • Relevant knowledge and experience
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Millwright

Education
 
  • Journeyman millwright – Canada Red Seal
  • 3 years experience in a maintenance in a seed production facility or in an industrial setting.
  • Software knowledge – Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, SAP work orders,             

Preferred Skills
 
  • Have sufficient knowledge to work in SAP workorder or similar system.
  • Be able to work in a high paced environment to trouble shoot equipment and make timely repairs.
  • Must supply basic tools to perform tasks.
  • Understanding of seed cleaning, packaging, and convenience equipment
  • Strong mechanical Knowledge of rotating equipment and convenience equipment, compressors, legs, drags, dust collection
  • Welding skills.
  • Confined space, working at heights, Arc flash, valid class 5, first Aid.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of PPE required on the production floor.
  • Physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, lifting, pushing/pulling, crouching, and grasping.
