Job Title: Cost Accountant
Location: Thomaston, CT
Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Schedule: 4 days on-site, 1 work-from-home day per week
Salary Range: $70,000 – $90,000 annually
As a key member of the Finance Department, the Cost Accountant will lead cost analysis and data collection initiatives. Working closely with the Controller and Finance Director, this role provides financial analysis, reporting, and decision support to help plant operations and finance teams manage and control costs. The focus is on analyzing and controlling internal costs—including production expenses, overhead, and inventory valuation—to improve operational efficiency and support strategic decision-making.
Key ResponsibilitiesData Collection & Reporting

Collect and report on daily, weekly, and monthly financial and operational data

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), highlight trends, and analyze causes of variances
Inventory Control & Management

Analyze inventory trends, PO commitments, and MRP demands

Manage obsolete inventory reserves

Generate and control Physical Inventory (PI) reports
Accounting & Cost Control

Perform accounting calculations and journal entries as required

Manage standard cost updates including cost roll-ups, master data reviews, purchase price updates, and work center rate calculations

Analyze actual vs. standard cost variances
Financial Analysis

Conduct margin analysis and provide detailed cost breakdowns

Deliver ad-hoc reports and analyses to support operational and financial needs
Month-End Close

Ensure timely collection and delivery of month-end financial reports

Support management and department heads with in-depth financial and operational analysis

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

3–5 years of practical accounting experience

Experience in a manufacturing environment is required

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including Power Query) and PowerPoint

Experience with SAP CO and FI modules is a plus

High attention to detail and accuracy
