Environmental Scientist
 

  • Contract-to-Hire
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
  • Opportunities in various locations including Houston & Dallas
  • Pay rate: $24-28 per hour dependent upon level of education and experience

As an Environmental Scientist, you will play a crucial part in supporting environmental services across Texas, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while gaining valuable hands-on experience. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with clients, local agencies, and a dedicated team to deliver impactful environmental solutions.
What You'll Do:
  • Support and execute environmental compliance tasks, including developing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, and other related permitting activities.
  • Conduct field evaluations at industrial facilities across Texas, collecting stormwater feature data, measuring secondary containment, annotating maps, and identifying storage tank capacities.
  • Perform site inspections, record photographic evidence, and develop inventories of oil-containing materials.
  • Prepare accurate, comprehensive written plans and reports, with a focus on SWPPP and SPCC document renewal for 2026.
  • Coordinate and schedule site visits directly with clients and team members, ensuring timely and efficient data collection and compliance checks.
  • Interpret technical data and utilize web-based software and Microsoft Office tools to produce detailed plans, reports, and project tracking.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, clients, and colleagues to achieve project goals and maintain excellent customer service.
You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, geology, biology, or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of related experience, with a basic understanding of the Clean Water Act.
  • Familiarity with SWPPP and SPCC Plans is preferred, but a strong willingness to learn is essential.
  • Ability to operate geographic data collection equipment or other scientific field tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Earth, and similar software platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor when interacting with clients and agency personnel.
Nice to Have Skills:
  • Previous experience with environmental compliance inspections.
  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) or basic mapping.
  • Knowledge of Texas environmental regulations and agencies.
Preferred Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field.
  • Up to 3 years of professional experience supporting environmental projects or compliance efforts.
Other Requirements:
  • Willingness to travel frequently within Texas for site visits and inspections.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations related to volume estimation.
  • Valid driver's license and the capacity to work in various outdoor environments.
