Industrial Engineer
Contract-3 Months +-

REMOTE- Will need to travel to Buffalo, NY 2-3 times or as needed

 

Position Summary

 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and Industrial Engineer to conduct time studies, map the contact lens manufacturing process, and identify key bottlenecks and constraints. This individual will develop a dynamic process model that allows simulation of variable factors (e.g., cycle time, staffing levels, equipment availability) to assess their impact on annual production output.

 

Key Responsibilities

Time Studies & Data Collection

  • Conduct detailed time and motion studies of each stage in the contact lens manufacturing process.
  • Collect and validate cycle time, changeover time, downtime, and throughput data.
  • Use statistical methods to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
  • Process Mapping & Analysis
  • Create detailed process flow maps, including material flow, equipment utilization, and labor allocation.
  • Identify process constraints, bottlenecks, and non-value-added activities.
  • Document standard work and process variations.

 

Process Modeling & Simulation

  • Develop a process model (e.g., in Excel, Arena, Simul8, or equivalent simulation software) to represent the manufacturing workflow.
  • Integrate variable inputs (e.g., equipment count, staffing, cycle time changes) to simulate production scenarios.
  • Analyze model outputs to forecast annual production capacity under different operating conditions.
  • Prepare clear reports and presentations for leadership, summarizing findings and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to validate process changes.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Research, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing process analysis, preferably in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or precision manufacturing.
  • Experience with time study methods (e.g., MTM, MOST, stopwatch studies).
