POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Laboratory of Clinical Immunology and Microbiology (LCIM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the lab's research efforts through a variety of laboratory procedures and techniques including the use of congenic, transgenic, and knockout mice, as well as analyses of lymphoma cell lines, DNA, and tissue microarrays. Key responsibilities include performing molecular and cell biology techniques, maintaining lab equipment and quality control, and preparing specimens and reports. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized individual with excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit, aimed at contributing to the lab's publications and reports. 

 

TASKS. The contractor shall: 

  • Perform various laboratory procedures and techniques, including work with congenic, transgenic, and knockout mice. 

  • Conduct analyses of lymphoma cell lines, DNA, and tissue microarrays. 

  • Operate laboratory instruments to perform tests, analyses, and other procedures. 

  • Write detailed reports of findings, including methods and procedures, modifications employed, and experiment results. 

  • Ensure quality control of the laboratory, including the upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. 

  • Carry out laboratory techniques relating to scientific research. 

  • Prepare specimens and equipment for experiments and manage general laboratory operations. 

  • Catalog and label laboratory samples, maintaining an organized inventory of samples and metadata, laboratory supplies, and reagents. 

  • Maintain detailed laboratory records of experiments and results. 

  • Collaborate effectively in a team-oriented working environment. 

  • Contribute to generating data for reports and publications by working collaboratively with other lab members. 

 

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant laboratory experience.  

  • Prior experience working with congenic, transgenic, and knockout mice. 

  • Good communication skills and writing skills. 

  • Ability to maintain detailed laboratory records. 

  • Proven experience with molecular and cell biology techniques. 

  • Experienced in quality control and maintenance of lab equipment. 

  • Strong organizational skills for managing inventory and lab supplies. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment. 

  • Strong commitment to following lab protocols and ensuring the safety and efficiency of the lab.
