Metallurgist - Multiple Locations-
Our client is need of a Metallurgist to replace a retiree, Direct Hire role. This person, ideally, will sit in Oakhill, WV, but the right person can be based out of Pittsburgh or another plant: Bristol, VA, Clare, MI, Madisonville, KY, or South Point, OH, with frequent travel to Oakhill, WV.
JOB SUMMARY:
This is an exempt managerial position where the employee interfaces with management and staff throughout the organization to corroborate that the quality management system is functioning properly. The employee exercises a substantial degree of independent judgment and analysis to ensure that the Company's products and/or services are fit for purpose, are consistent, and meet both external and internal requirements including legal compliance and customer specification(s).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Material Science, Metallurgy or Related Engineering Field, Required.
Minimum Ten (10) Years Material Science or Metallurgical Experience, Required.
Experience with Tungsten Cobalt Powder Formulation, Pressing, and Sintering.
HIP Sintering Experience, A Plus.
Experience in Wear Tool Design.
Experience with Carbide Brazing Processes.
Knowledge of Cutting Tools and Applications, A Plus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Competent, personable listening, verbal, and written communication skills and high degree of independent judgment and analysis to collaborate with cross-functional teams to reach joint decisions regarding effective functioning of quality management system and to effectively write routine correspondence, create presentations, and complete required reporting functions.
Proficient information gathering and monitoring skills to facilitate effective, unbiased decision-making and problem-solving functions.
Ability to anticipate needs, set goals/standards and measure results with complementing ability to effectively adapt to changing situations, unexpected issues, and varied job demands.
Good organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously to completion.
Good leadership skills to interface with interdepartmental corporate personnel and plant management/supervisory personnel to advise and implement appropriate changes to quality management system and to provide training, tools and techniques to enable others to achieve quality standards.
Proficient math skills and technical capacity with ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms.
Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and applicable quality management system software.
“Team member” mentality with ability to maintain a positive, proactive, self-directed approach.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports Company's quality management system through knowledgeable application of ISO processes and principles and ASTM specification; coordinates Quality department resources for assistance to plants/operations.
Assists Operations department with technical information as needed, input for plant/manufacturing changes and product quality, and new machinery capability review.
Assists Purchasing department with raw material, incoming non-conforming material, and new product quality requirement reviews; interfaces with external suppliers and vendors on development of components or raw material needed for production.
Assists Sales department by providing technical assistance to field sales representatives and job bid information as required; providing follow-up to customer compliant-related issues; meeting with customers to discuss specific quality issues generating written documentation and presentations as needed; visiting customer sites to perform product issue evaluation or installation testing support.
Creates precise designs for components and provides technical advice about the suitability of metals for different purposes; makes recommendations and advisements about product feasibility; assists with new product testing using both destructive and non-destructive techniques.
Provides technical knowledge and assistance for Continual Improvement projects related to new equipment, testing, and controlling documentation as needed.
Performs Root Cause Corrective Action for process and part deviations or Quality check failures.
