Plant Microbiologist

Direct Hire Role
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Salary: $90,000-$112,000/year
Location: Winder GA

 The Plant Microbiologist will be responsible for environmental monitoring, risk assessments, complaint investigations, corrective and preventative actions, cleaning and sanitization, and training of plant personnel. This role requires collaboration with both Industrial and R&I functions, with a focus on fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead microbial control, cleaning and sanitization, and environmental monitoring programs (e.g., water systems) for North American plants.
  • Provide expert guidance during investigations and risk assessments.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce contamination risks and improve microbiological hygiene.
  • Lead training programs and raise microbiological awareness on the plant floor.
  • Conduct microbiological testing as needed to support responsibilities.
  • Communicate adverse trends and propose solutions.
  • Lead and/or participate in site audits of microbiological best practices.
  • Stay up to date with required safety training and actively contribute to maintaining a safe plant environment.
  • Monitor emerging microbiology technologies and trends, advising leadership on opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Learn and adhere to safety procedures in the plant environment, developing good safety habits and documenting work steps.

This is an onsite position based at a North American plant with travel required to other plants (~25% of the time).

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum B.S. degree in a scientific discipline required (microbiology or similar field preferred).
  • Experience: 5-10 years of experience as a plant microbiologist or in a closely related role within the cosmetic ingredient, food & beverage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors required.
  • Strong leadership skills and excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of microbiological testing methodologies (e.g., USP 51, 61, 62; ISO 11930, method suitability).
  • Familiarity with sources, vectors, and growth patterns of environmental microorganisms.
