Kelly Services is actively recruiting for a Process Technician for a Long Term Contract opportunity in Lake Jackson, TX.
Reactor Operator
We are looking for a Reactor Operator responsible for conducting batch reactor and Parr reactor operations for various chemical reactions including polymerizations for the Process R&D organization. The Reactor Operator is the direct contact to the Process R&D subject matter experts for process issues and troubleshooting. The candidate will assist a team of researchers in the process R&D group by generating experimental data for various process R&D related projects of Plastics and Hydrocarbons technologies.
This role involves but is not limited to carrying out experiments in glassware and stainless-steel reactors. Depending on the qualifications of the candidate, the work may also involve other laboratory activities such as operation of viscosity measurement instruments, and design and installation of lab equipment.
Additionally, this role also involves supporting the team by assembling new reactors and experimental setups.  The role will also involve the use of analytical instruments such a gas chromatograph, data loggers, and others.
The person that we are looking for should be a self-starter who is detail oriented and is eager to learn new areas of process technology. The candidate should have a mindset for working safely with a wide variety of chemicals.  The job role requires troubleshooting ability, keeping up with appropriate documentation of experiments, and participating in safety related programs such as safety checks and proper PPE.  Generally, the working schedule will be 40 hrs per week Mon-Fri.
Responsibilities/Duties

  • Operate batch polymerization reactors under specified sets of conditions to evaluate the performance of new research catalysts
  • Operate Parr reactors under specified sets of conditions to generate experimental data
  • Act as the direct contact to the subject matter experts for process issues
  • Input and adjust settings on the reactor process computer on a run-to-run basis per reaction recipes
  • Perform necessary on the spot maintenance to assure optimal reactor process conditions
  • Perform routine maintenance on the reactors including changing-out reactor thermocouples, valves, pumps, check valves and bending and installing new tubing when necessary
  • Packaging/disposing of waste per RCRA regulations in addition to general housekeeping tasks

Required qualifications
  • A minimum of an Associates degree in process technology or applied science

Preferred Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Knowledgeable on how to operate and maintain the nitrogen gloveboxes
  • Experience with handling of air and moisture sensitive catalyst samples and chemicals
