Kelly Services® has been providing outstanding employment opportunities to the most talented individuals in the marketplace. We are proud to offer a 3 month contract (potential for extension) opportunity to work as a Quality Assurance Chemist located in Spartanburg, SC.

Pay: $24/hr (flexible depending on level of experience)

Position: Quality Assurance Chemist (12-Hour Rotating Shift) - Spartanburg, SC

Primary Purpose: The Quality Assurance Chemist is responsible for analyzing raw materials, products at various production stages, and finished goods, including toll-produced materials. With authority within guidelines, the role involves approving and releasing or quarantining raw materials and finished goods.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experiences:

  • Minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education (BS degree in Science is a plus).
  • Preferred 2 years' experience in an industrial environment, with a focus on quality assurance.
  • Strong familiarity with PCs and Windows software.
  • Capable of making decisions and working unsupervised safely and effectively.
  • Familiarity with Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Six Sigma principles.
  • Strong GC/HPLC experience.
  • Competent in or able to learn the SAP system for QA transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • QA inspection, reporting, approval/release, and record-keeping for raw materials, in-process, and finished goods testing.
  • Detailed administrative record-keeping, including COA generation and data entry into LIMS.
  • Determine and calculate batch adjustments, including mathematical and bench blends.
  • Prepare and standardize reagents, maintain stock of supplies and chemicals, and write requisitions.
  • Maintain lab instruments, equipment, and apparatus, calibrating as directed and keeping records.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • SAP entry of analytical values; SAP transaction as required by QA; nonconformance tracking in SAP and Access.
  • Participation in customer complaint and process incident investigations.
  • Involvement in the Plant Safety Program, including completing safety training modules, observations, and incident reports.
  • Participation in ISO 9001 Quality System improvement processes.
  • Communication with raw material suppliers, customers, Solvay customer satisfaction representatives, as necessary.
  • Identification of internal and external customers and development of effective working skills.
  • Training of new chemists and technicians as needed.
  • Maintenance of good housekeeping discipline.
  • Collection, segregation, and disposal of hazardous lab waste.
  • Demonstration of commitment to continuous improvement in quality, including ISO 9001 and EFFCI.

  • Perform the job in a sound HS&E manner to protect yourself and those around you.
  • Maintain a proactive mindset for risk assessment and hazard avoidance.
  • Be aware of your mental state to prevent distractions and errors.
  • Utilize available tools, including HS&E training, risk assessment, incident reporting, checklists, and Manufacturing Excellence tools.
  • Job completion means Good Housekeeping, filling necessary reports, and watching for your safety and those around you.
  • Maintain and clean Personal Protective Equipment properly.
  • Active participation leads to ownership.
