Regulatory Affairs Associate

Location: Dallas, NC
Department: Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs
Reports To: Director, Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs
Salary - $70,000 - $85,000

Position Summary

The Regulatory Affairs Associate supports the Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs Director in ensuring company-wide compliance with regulatory requirements across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This role focuses on regulations governing colors and plant-based ingredients used in food, beverages, and pet food. The Regulatory Affairs Associate conducts research, maintains regulatory documentation, evaluates product and ingredient compliance, and provides guidance to internal teams. This position plays a critical part in supporting customer inquiries, new product development, supplier approvals, and maintaining company-wide regulatory readiness.

Essential Functions
  1. Track, monitor, and communicate current, proposed, and emerging regulations that may impact the company.

  2. Independently research regulatory information related to US FDA, USDA, and Canadian and Mexican regulations.

  3. Prepare accurate and timely responses to customer inquiries regarding product regulatory status, including specifications, allergens, labeling, nutrition, claims, GMO, Organic, and certifications.

  4. Create and maintain up-to-date regulatory statements and documentation.

  5. Review and approve finished product specifications, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and labels for compliance.

  6. Conduct regulatory assessments for new ingredients and product launches.

  7. Support the Quality team in evaluating and approving new suppliers.

  8. Partner with cross-functional teams—including R&D, QA, Production, Sales & Marketing, and Agriculture—on regulatory topics.

  9. Train internal teams on regulatory updates, requirements, and best practices.

  10. Perform additional tasks and assignments to meet business needs as required.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Stay informed on regulatory legislation, industry standards, and guideline changes.

  • Complete all required safety training in a timely manner.

  • Maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards, PPE requirements, and company policies.

  • Promote and embody the organization's food safety culture.

  • Maintain a clean, professional, and organized work environment, supporting colleagues in maintaining proper hygiene standards.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field.

  2. 2–3 years of regulatory compliance experience within the food industry.

  3. Experience with ingredient and product compliance, labeling, and claims.

  4. Strong knowledge of FDA food regulations.

  5. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  6. Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  8. High attention to detail and accuracy.

  9. Knowledge of Canadian and Mexican regulations (preferred but not required).

  10. Fluency in Spanish (preferred but not required).
