Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking an R&D Manager, Chemistry & Reagents for a direct-hire position at a leading company in the life sciences sector in Irvine, CA. Salary/Pay Rate/Compensation: $120-150k/yr
Overview: This client is an industry-leading life sciences company focused on developing cutting-edge reagents and assays to enhance biological workflows on-chip and transferring technology from R&D to manufacturing.
In this role, you'll be working with a team of Ph.D.-level chemists and engineers to oversee the development of new reagents and assays. This role will give you an opportunity to build innovative solutions while advancing progress on development programs, resulting in significant contributions to life sciences research and diagnostics.
Responsibilities:
- Manage an interdisciplinary team of Ph.D.-level chemists and engineers.
- Drive R&D efforts to develop new reagents and assays for protein characterization capabilities (western blot, IEF, SDS PAGE, SPR).
- Lead the characterization and testing of new reagents.
- Design functional tests to validate reagent and assay performance.
- Recommend lead reagent and assay candidates for further testing by internal teams.
- Oversee the transfer of new reagents from R&D to Manufacturing, including documentation and QC procedures.
- Support the scale-up of reagent manufacturing.
- Collaborate with suppliers to synthesize custom reagents.
- Set individual and team goals that align with corporate objectives.
- Provide professional development opportunities and mentorship for team members.
- Present project updates and new R&D findings to executive management and stakeholders.
- Manage timelines, budgets, and resources efficiently.
- Write job requisitions and hire staff as needed.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field with an excellent academic record.
- Minimum of 8 years of industry experience.
- 5+ years of direct management experience.
- Experience in developing IVD and life science reagents.
- Proficiency in protein and microparticle conjugation.
- Bio-conjugation experience including chemical modification and purification of proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids.
- Strong expertise in surface and interfacial chemistry.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques such as chromatography, fluorescence, and protein characterization.
- Data-driven approach with expertise in DOE and statistical analysis.
- Outstanding collaborative, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
