JOB SUMMARY

Today, Kelly Science is searching for an experienced Research Technologist to join our team at a Fortune 500 Chemical Company in Baytown, TX for a long-term assignment. The Technologist is tasked with providing detailed testing results to support the advancement of Polyolefin and Specialty Product Development, with a strong focus on candidates possessing extensive laboratory experience in both physical properties and analytical testing.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs comprehensive physical properties testing on polyolefin resins and films, including Tensile, Compression, IZOD impact, Hardness, and related mechanical tests.
  • Conducts advanced analytical testing such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Oxidative Induction Time (OIT), and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA).
  • Interfaces with internal customers daily to ensure testing aligns with project needs.
  • Operates and maintains a wide range of analytical and physical properties testing equipment, ensuring optimal function and reliability.
  • Ensures data accuracy and reliability through strict adherence to quality objectives and develops detailed method support documentation.
  • Prepares and tests samples by following detailed ASTM and ISO methods to provide high-quality, reproducible data.
  • Calculates, analyzes, and interprets data to support decision-making by Ph.D. Scientists and Engineers.
  • Enters data into the work order management system and efficiently manages work request backlogs and turnaround times.
  • Performs method development work to support product development and innovation.
  • Troubleshoots analytical issues and leads efforts to introduce new technologies that support the business.
  • Oversees third-party instrument calibrations, performs equipment verifications, and conducts internal calibrations with monitoring of Statistical Quality Control (SQC) charts to ensure compliance.
  • Manages sample inventory, including handling, shipping, storage, and disposal, in line with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Conducts advanced scientific experiments to support long-term product and process development objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of laboratory experience, preferably in an industrial or research setting within the oil & gas, polymer, or chemical industries.
  • Proven hands-on experience with physical properties testing: Tensile, Compression, IZOD, Hardness, and other mechanical tests on polymer materials.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analytical testing methods including HPLC, DSC, OIT, and TGA.
  • Strong knowledge of ASTM and ISO test methods relevant to polymers and resins.
  • Experience with method development and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation.
  • Proficient in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or similar software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with efficient turnaround times.
  • Excellent communication skills to interface effectively with internal customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to safety practices and quality compliance in a laboratory environment.
