What You'll Do:

As a Senior R&D Chemist, you'll spearhead the development of cutting-edge personal care, cosmetic, OTC lip balm, and sunscreen products. You'll translate customer requests and market gaps into innovative formulations, oversee scale-up processes, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure regulatory compliance. Your leadership will guide pilot batch supervision, raw material research, formulation documentation, and coordination with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products efficiently. You will also stay ahead of industry trends, assess raw material interactions, and mentor laboratory staff to foster continuous improvement.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of laboratory equipment, techniques, and safe chemical handling
  • Advanced formulation expertise with a strong technical background
  • In-depth understanding of FDA regulations and cGMP standards
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and innovation capabilities
  • Proven ability to lead projects independently and collaborate effectively
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience with vendor sourcing and raw material research
  • Familiarity with product stability testing and batch troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of regulatory submission processes
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a laboratory setting
  • Experience with trend analysis in retail personal care markets

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields with a minimum of 8 years in personal care formulation OR
  • Master's degree with over 6 years of relevant experience
  • 10+ years of experience highly preferred for senior leadership and complex formulation development roles

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines
  • Willingness to train and supervise both permanent and temporary lab staff
  • Experience working in fast-paced, evolving environments
  • Ability to travel if necessary to vendor or client sites
