Job Description

  • A Systems Engineer in the Defense and Aerospace Industry plays a crucial role in the development, integration, and maintenance of complex systems and technologies used in defense and aerospace applications. The job description may vary slightly depending on the specific organization or project

Responsibilities
System Design and Development:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop system architectures, subsystems, and components for defense and aerospace systems.
  • This involves understanding and analyzing system requirements, conducting feasibility studies, and creating design specifications.

System Integration:
  • Coordinate and oversee the integration of various subsystems, components, and technologies to ensure proper functionality and interoperability.
  • This includes conducting system testing, troubleshooting issues, and implementing corrective measures.
     
Requirements Management:
  • Define, document, and manage system requirements throughout the entire development lifecycle. This involves capturing stakeholder needs, analyzing and allocating requirements, and maintaining traceability between system elements.
     
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
  • Identify potential risks and uncertainties associated with system design, integration, and operation. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks, ensure system safety, and enhance reliability.
     
Technical Documentation:
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and comprehensive technical documentation, including system specifications, design documents, test plans, and user manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
     
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including engineers, project managers, and stakeholders, to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and alignment of project goals and objectives. Participate in meetings, reviews, and presentations.
     
Verification and Validation:
  • Plan and execute verification and validation activities to ensure that the developed systems meet the specified requirements and performance metrics.
  • This includes developing test procedures, conducting tests, analyzing results, and documenting findings.

System Lifecycle Management:
  • Support system lifecycle management activities, including system upgrades, configuration management, and maintenance planning. Monitor system performance, assess operational issues, and propose improvements or enhancements.

Requirements
Education:
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, preferably in a relevant field such as Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Systems Engineering, Computer or Software Engineering. Advanced degrees or certifications may be preferred for senior or specialized positions.
Technical Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with defense and aerospace industry standards, regulations, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of relevant technologies, such as avionics, sensors, communication systems, and software integration.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
  • Ability to analyze complex system requirements, identify potential issues or risks, and propose innovative solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address integration challenges and ensure system performance.
  • Experience with Computer Integration and Test experience.
  • Bash Scripting experience is a plus.
Project Management:
  • Proficiency in project management principles and practices.
  • Experience in planning and executing engineering projects within defined timelines and budgets.
Software Tools:
  • Familiarity with systems engineering tools and software used for requirements management, modeling and simulation, configuration management, and project documentation (e.g., DOORS, SysML, MATLAB, Simulink).
