Employment: 1 year contract with a possibility of term extension.  

Shift: Day Shift | 7:45 AM to 5:15PM | Monday to Friday | Hybrid (10% onsite 90 % remote) 

Pay Rate: $18.41/hr 

 

Summary of Responsibilities:  

The Tax Abatement Analyst is responsible for reviewing and analyzing customer-submitted financial data to determine eligibility for tax abatements and resolve compliance issues. The role involves evaluating evidence, applying tax laws, preparing detailed reports, and occasionally representing the department at hearings. The analyst uses accounting principles, analytical techniques, and problem-solving skills to ensure compliance with Arizona tax statutes while maintaining accurate records and effective communication with taxpayers and staff. This is a primarily remote role with occasional onsite duties.  

Responsibilities:  

  • Analyze and evaluate customer-submitted financial information to determine compliance and eligibility for tax abatements. 

  • Request additional information, review evidence, and make findings of fact in accordance with procedural standards, statutes, and tax laws. 

  • Prepare detailed documentation and summaries for hearings; may represent the department in informal hearings. 

  • Develop, maintain, and modify recordkeeping and accounting systems, utilizing Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and tax accounting software. 

  • Apply accounting and mathematical principles to calculate taxes, penalties, and interest accurately. 

  • Educate taxpayers on filing requirements, noncompliance issues, and potential solutions. 

  • Conduct research, perform critical analysis, and problem-solve complex financial and tax-related situations. 

  • Communicate effectively with staff, taxpayers, and other governmental personnel, both verbally and in writing. 

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to changing priorities while maintaining accuracy and compliance. 

Must-haves:  

  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Sheets, Gmail) and/or Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). 

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Understanding of accounting and mathematical principles relevant to tax calculations. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and in a team. 

  • Some college coursework in accounting, business, or related field, or two years of professional experience. 

  • Ability to follow established guidelines, maintain accurate documentation, and meet deadlines.  

Skills Desired/Preferred:  

  • Spanish-speaking skills for bilingual taxpayer support. 

  • Previous experience in tax compliance, financial analysis, or audit roles. 

  • Familiarity with tax accounting software or ERP systems. 

  • Experience representing an organization in hearings or dispute resolution. 

  • Prior experience in remote or hybrid work environments.
