POSITION SUMMARY
The Aseptic PLC Technician is responsible for performing installations, repairs, preventative maintenance, and process improvements on aseptic production equipment and facilities in an effective and timely manner. Improve production results in the best available way.
The PLC Tech frequently utilizes a laptop computer to access machine programs; the ability to make necessary programming changes, troubleshoot equipment, and support aseptic system operations are key capabilities for this position, including experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley, and Krones control systems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the job)
Responsibilities include:
• Perform Electrical and PLC tasks including but not limited to calibrating, monitoring, repairing and maintaining transmitters, controllers, plant safety systems, power systems and sensors supporting aseptic processing equipment.
• Install, program, and maintain Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) using communication software including Allen Bradley (Rockwell), Siemens (TIA Portal), and Krones systems.
• Troubleshoot and modify PLC programs for aseptic filling machines, CIP/SIP systems, and high-speed packaging lines to ensure sterile production conditions.
• Studies and records time, motion, methods, and speed to improve efficiency.
• Demonstrates ability to learn and retain information, methods, and processes.
• Install, calibrate, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical instrumentation, equipment and associate electrical/electronic controls and related devices for continuity, current, voltage and resistance, including temperature, pressure, flow, and level instrumentation used in aseptic systems.
• Install and troubleshoot a variety of photo-eyes and proxies.
• Performs maintenance, installation, and preventative maintenance on all production and facilities equipment including aseptic fillers, pumps, conveyors, and Krones bottling/packaging systems.
• Program, configure, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) across multiple platforms.
• Setup remote access 24/7 to be able to access control logic system in the plant.
• Coordinates efforts with management, production, quality, maintenance, and other personnel to effectively utilize all equipment and processes and work toward continuous process improvement, including compliance with food safety and aseptic standards.
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
• Update drawings, manuals etc. to ensure updated changes are documented.
• Coordinates with outside contractors and vendors to obtain needed parts, equipment, and technical knowledge related to Siemens, Allen Bradley, and Krones systems.
• Works to maintain company objectives and departmental budgets.
• Completes all required paperwork as directed by management.
• Assists production personnel to changeover production equipment and maximize production efficiency as dictated by production schedules while maintaining sterile conditions.
• Trains other maintenance and production personnel to safely, effectively, and efficiently use production and facilities equipment, including PLC-controlled and automated aseptic systems.
• Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner in accordance with GMP standards.
• Performs other job duties as directed by management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED
• 3+ years minimum experience in a continuous flow manufacturing or industrial environment with automated equipment required
• Must be able to operate a forklift, manlift, and basic power tools
• Must have basic math abilities to calculate times, speeds, temperatures, etc.
• Must have the ability to function as a team player under demanding circumstances
• Must have the ability to recognize and utilize the proper Personal Protective Equipment for specific tasks
• Experience troubleshooting PLC equipment is required, including Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be detail oriented and can multi-task
• Must have excellent time management skills
• Accessible for remote access 24/7 to be able to access control logic system in the plant
Additional Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in the food/beverage or aseptic manufacturing industry
• Proven organizational skills
• Basic understanding of computers and touch screen controls (HMI)
• Advanced PLC programming experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley, and Krones systems
• Experience with aseptic systems, CIP/SIP processes, or liquid packaging equipment
• 2 year degree in Electronics or equivalent certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a production setting.
FREQUENT: Ability to talk and hear; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 75 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in area of responsibility. Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal).
OCCASIONAL: Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask and perform Confined Entry using LOTO program. Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals. Work on a ladder or in a lift at heights up to 35 feet, work in extreme heat or cold, crouch & bend sufficiently to perform equipment installations, repairs, cleaning, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. Climb steps and ladders.
VISION: Ability to use close and distance vision, as well as color and peripheral vision with or without correction. Must be able to visually detect obstacles and potential dangers in a fast-paced production environment involving high speed equipment and powered industrial lift equipment.
HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Exposure to noise levels from pumps, machinery, forklift traffic, bottle lines and exhaust fans.
