Job Summary
Leads Lexington Medical Center (LMC) and its subsidiaries in the maintenance of accounting principles, practices, and procedures. Maintains all accounting records and is responsible for the accurate and timely compilation of all organizational financial information. The position will ensure that the organization maintains appropriate policies, systems, and controls that support accountability, stewardship, and compliance with all regulatory and GAAP and GASB reporting requirements. The Controller will work closely with operational leaders to provide strategic financial analysis and business decision support to improve financial performance. Also identifies increased revenue possibilities, cost reduction possibilities, and increased reimbursement. Indirectly supervises, Budget/RVU Manager, Reimbursement Accountant, General Accountants, Payroll Supervisor and staff, Billing Auditor and administrative staff within department.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum Years of Experience: 6 Years of healthcare accounting experience;
5 Years of experience as a hospital controller.
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): 5 Years of experience as a hospital controller can be substituted for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
Required Certifications/Licensure: None.
Required Training: Demonstrated ability to supervise personnel
- Establish and maintain an ongoing consolidated accounting system on behalf of LMC to meet needs and provide complete and accurate records.
- Provides analysis of the organization's income, expenditures, and capital asset values with comparisons to previous periods. Makes recommendations concerning methods of reducing operating costs and increasing income.
- Effectively communicate the financial condition of the organization to the CFO and other members of leadership.
- Analyze the effect of external environment on financial stability of the organization.
- Serves as a consultant regarding the organization's financial affairs, development of operating policies and procedures, departments' needs and problems.
- Keeps the organization's insurance policies current to ensure that our assets are adequately protected against loss and maintain the various hospital insurance programs.
- Ensures that the organization is in compliance with debt covenants.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of the monthly financial and operation reports.
- Reviews and provides logical explanations for monthly, quarterly, and annual variances in general ledger accounts and hospital statistics.
- Prepares quarterly consolidated financial statements and appropriate ratios.
- Prepares annual consolidating financial statements and footnotes for auditors.
- Provides analysis and support for all external auditors and coordinates audit.
- Responsible for coordination of operating budgets.
- Prepares and affects timely filing of federal, state, hospital association, third party, and other financial reports as required.
- Administer and monitor an effective system of internal controls.
- Maintains compliance with all laws and applicable regulatory requirements. Acts promptly to comply with required changes.
- Reviews, monitors, and evaluates the third party reimbursement. Based on expected reimbursement, analyzes and adjusts the allowance accounts.
- Presents constructive feedback regarding system or process failures and participates in resolution with work partners in a proactive and positive manner.
- Selects, trains/orients and assigns department staff (either directly or through subordinate supervisor). Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Maintains designation as a CPA through appropriate required continuing education.
- Responsible for special projects as requested or other duties as assigned.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
