Title and Summary

Counsel, US Region, Financial Institutions Overview
Mastercard is looking for a Counsel, US Region, Financial Institutions to join our dynamic legal team supporting the United States, Mastercard's largest region. This role will provide transactional support and counsel to Mastercard's customer account teams for issuers, processors, and other issuing program partners, helping to drive legal strategy, manage risk, and enable growth in Mastercard's core business. The position reports to Senior Managing Counsel, US Region, Financial Institutions.

Role
• Act as a day-to-day advisor for our account teams by partnering with the business, cross-functional partners, and legal subject matter experts to deliver on Mastercard's strategy, including expanding Mastercard issuance and securing Mastercard share with issuers, processors, and other issuing program partners.
• Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to better understand and advise holistically on Mastercard's core products and relevant regulatory, compliance, privacy and antitrust issues.
• Structure, draft, review and negotiate incentive agreements and other customer agreements, including identifying legal and business risks and recommending solutions, with minimal supervision.
• Train and educate account teams on processes, risks, changes in laws and regulations and the U.S. regulatory landscape on an ongoing basis.
• Work with the US legal team on process improvements and efficiencies to increase ease of doing business.
All About You
• JD from an accredited law school; admitted to practice law in the State of New York.
• Significant transactional legal experience at a reputable law firm or as an in-house counsel.
• Strong drafting and negotiating skills with the ability to understand and simplify complex concepts, issues and deal structures.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively, spot issues, prioritize and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced sales environment.
• Keen business insight and strong communication skills to interact confidently and effectively with internal clients, Mastercard customers and Law department colleagues, including senior management.
• A team player, willing to take on responsibilities and roles that support the team, department, region and the company. In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
