Title and Summary

Director, Technical Accounting (CPA) Overview:
The Director, Technical Accounting reports to the VP, Controller, Technical Accounting, and provides expert guidance on complex accounting matters, ensuring compliance with U.S. and international GAAP. This role leads technical accounting research, develops and maintains policies and procedures, delivers clear analyses and executive level presentations, and partners with business and finance teams to support decision making, enhance controllership processes, and drive continuous improvement across the organization.

Role:
• Researches and plans implementation of new accounting pronouncements
• Maintain and update standardized accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP/IFRS, regulatory requirements, and evolving business needs
• Perform, review, and oversee accounting research on new, existing, routine, and complex transactions under U.S. GAAP and international standards, delivering well documented analyses, technical memos, and presentations to provide clear, actionable guidance to senior management and internal stakeholders
• Assist the business in financial decision making by analyzing and recommending alternative accounting approaches for new and existing transactions
• Support purchase price accounting and valuation for acquisitions and provide guidance on pipeline M&A transactions
• Manage accounting for the investment portfolio, including complex investments, VIE analysis, and mark-to-market adjustments, in partnership with Strategy and Corporate Development
• Develop and review accounting memos under U.S. and international GAAP, coordinating with auditors to ensure compliance
• Provide ongoing support for moderate to complex accounting issues and review reporting deliverables for SEC compliance
• Lead training and communication on new accounting pronouncements through technical materials and clear guidance
• Assess and enhance controllership processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance
• Advise senior management with actionable recommendations on accounting and financial reporting matters
• Complete special ad-hoc requests from senior leadership, including research, analysis, and review of technical memorandums on proposed or completed transactions

All About You:
In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we would highlight the following:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
• Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant
• Extensive experience in US and International GAAP, including complex and non-routine accounting transactions
• Experienced in performing technical accounting research and providing guidance on complex accounting issues
• Established credibility as a trusted advisor to business partners and senior leadership on complex technical matters, including the ability to prepare and present technical memos, analyses, and executive level presentations
• Strong communication, leadership, and business acumen, with proven ability to influence senior stakeholders
• Experience assessing the effectiveness of financial controls, ensuring compliance, and improving controllership processes in a complex, global organization.
• Proven track record in driving process improvement initiatives and implementing procedures effectively
• Experience managing high-risk accounting issues and resolving them with efficiency and accuracy
• Excels in fast-paced environments by effectively prioritizing competing tasks and managing multiple deliverables with focus and efficiency
• Confident and poised influencer who integrates analytical, technical, and leadership skills to achieve organizational goals
• Builds strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders across finance, business, and leadership, fostering alignment and effective decision making
• Demonstrated success in leading change and fostering a continuous improvement culture.
• Strong project management, analytical, and financial skills
• Ability to integrate knowledge across disciplines and demonstrate effective leadership
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with Hyperion, Oracle, or other ERP systems a plus

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more.
