Title and Summary

Senior Counsel, Mastercard Commercial and New Payment Flows Mastercard is a technology company in the global payments business, connecting cardholders, customers, financial institutions, merchants, governments, and businesses worldwide.
Mastercard Commercial and New Payment Flows is responsible for building and commercialising products and services for large corporations as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, to reduce complexity, cut costs, and automate processes in the B2B and travel payments ecosystems. The Commercial and New Payment Flows team is also tasked with growing Mastercard's money movement solutions.
Mastercard is seeking an experienced lawyer to join our global legal team to provide support to the Commercial and New Payment Flows team engaged in product development and sales in Asia Pacific.

Role
This Senior Counsel role requires strong commercial acumen and experience in supporting new product development and commercialisation activities in the financial services space. The role will support the development and expansion of Commercial and New Payment Flows offerings, including Mastercard's money movement solutions, and will involve drafting and negotiating contracts, as well as managing legal risk related to B2B and travel payments automation and cross-border payment platforms.

Key responsibilities include
• Partnering with product, sales, franchise, marketing, and other teams to develop and launch innovative products and solutions that differentiate Mastercard and meet our customers' rapidly changing needs.
• Providing legal advice on licensed money transfer (including cross-border money transfer) in the Asia Pacific region, including matters relating to new market entry.
• Structuring and negotiating a wide range of contracts (including services offered by regulated entities, complex technology agreements, and customer and vendor agreements) to drive issuer and merchant acceptance and adoption of Commercial and New Payment Flows products and services.
• Collaborating with in-house and external specialists (including regulatory, compliance, data protection, and intellectual property counsel) to identify relevant issues and help the business navigate legal risks effectively
• Supporting the Commercial and New Payment Flows business development teams in product sales initiatives.
• Advising on a wide range of commercial and contractual matters, including legal and business risk assessment and analysis for diverse matters, from new product constructs to commercial agreements.
• Taking responsibility for high-profile projects while continuing to handle a steady stream of day-to-day matters.
• Ensuring compliance with Mastercard's policies and procedures and providing relevant training to the business.
• Managing external counsel in line with agreed policy and budget.

All About You
• Qualified lawyer with a solid academic and training background, admitted to practise law in one or more jurisdictions.
• At least 11 years' experience in the relevant fields of practice, preferably including in-house experience.
• Prior experience in a financial services or payments organisation, and familiarity with regulations relating to payments, money transfer, and commercial banking in Asia Pacific markets, will be considered favourably.
• Ability to grasp complex new business concepts and develop and implement creative approaches to problems, while identifying and balancing risks with results.
• Strong business acumen and a keen interest in technology.
• Strong drafting and negotiating skills across a range of complex commercial contracts, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to analyse and identify core legal issues.
• Exposure to a broad range of transactional, commercial, and technology law issues.
• Strong working knowledge of data privacy and intellectual property issues.
• Experience working on global agreements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Experience navigating a multinational organisation across various jurisdictions and time zones, and working effectively within diverse, multicultural environments.
• Team player with a positive attitude.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
• Solutions-oriented, able to multi-task effectively, manage competing priorities, and work flexibly under pressure.
• Must demonstrate a proactive, time-sensitive, results-driven approach in carrying out all responsibilities.
• Interest in the business of Mastercard and enjoyment of working in a fast-paced environment.
