Senior Counsel, Mastercard Move Overview

Mastercard Move is Mastercard's portfolio of money movement capabilities powering a variety of payment experiences. Mastercard Move provides banks, non-bank financial institutions, direct disbursers, and their customers with a fast, transparent, secure and efficient money transfer solution, domestically and internationally. Mastercard is seeking an experienced lawyer to join the global product legal team supporting Mastercard Move.

Role

The role requires strong commercial knowledge and experience in payments, remittances or related financial services. The role will act as an advisor for Mastercard Move Product and Sales teams by partnering with the business to deliver on commercial objectives and strategy. This role will report to the Senior Managing Counsel in the Mastercard Move legal team based in New York.

The key responsibilities for the role include:
• Providing end-to-end support for the development of new products and capabilities for Mastercard Move.
• Structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of contracts, including managing updates to standard customer documentation.
• Collaborating with in-house and external specialists (including Regulatory, Compliance, and Data Privacy) to identify relevant issues, help the business effectively navigate legal risks, and implement appropriate controls.
• Training and educating clients on processes, risks, and the current legal landscape.
• Identifying needed process improvements and efficiencies; streamlining processes to increase ease of doing business.
• Taking responsibility for special projects while continuing to handle a steady stream of day-to-day matters.

All About You

• US qualified lawyer with extensive experience, preferably including both law firm and in-house work experience. Familiarity with laws and regulations in the payments and remittances spaces will be considered favorably.
• Able to work independently as well as collaboratively, spot issues, prioritize, and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to legal and business executives, product owners, and other stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
• Strong drafting and negotiating skills with the ability to understand and simplify complex concepts, issues, technologies, and deal structures.
• Solution-oriented and able to work flexibly, under pressure, and with tight deadlines. In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
