Title and Summary

Senior Counsel, Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility Overview
• Mastercard is committed to balancing innovation while ensuring legal compliance and has embraced Responsible AI, Privacy and Data Protection as core to the successful execution of its business strategy. As part of that commitment, Mastercard has established a world-class AI Governance and Privacy program and is currently adding talent to its global team.
• The Senior Counsel – Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility will play a pivotal role in shaping Mastercard's AI Governance and Privacy program, ensuring that Cybersecurity solutions align with emerging privacy, cyber, data protection, and AI regulations.
• The position will report to the Senior Managing Counsel, Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility and will be a member of the Global Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility team.
• The Senior Counsel must be abreast of Artificial Intelligence technology and familiar with key legal and technical fundamental rights considerations pertaining to Artificial Intelligence. Ability to understand complex product constructs, and to develop creative legal solutions is key.

Core responsibilities

• Analyze Cybersecurity solutions considering AI law requirements with the aim of identifying the relevant process and infrastructure requirements to ensure compliance with applicable privacy, cyber, AI and data protection laws globally
• Lead the identification of business requirements inside the Cybersecurity space to streamline AI assessments, policies and processes for compliance with applicable AI laws, incl. EU AI Act.
• Develop contract structures that address privacy and AI governance requirements, including the review and negotiation of applicable language in agreements with affiliates, vendors, and customers to ensure compliance with global privacy, cyber, and AI regulations.
• Increase awareness among business clients, global privacy, legal, and AI governance teams regarding privacy, cybersecurity, and AI compliance as they relate to Mastercard Cybersecurity solutions—through targeted training, documentation, and cross-functional initiatives.
• Partner with stakeholders on all AI-related matters to implement legal, technical, operational and administrative requirements for Mastercard's AI-powered Cybersecurity solutions and uses stemming from evolving AI regulations globally.
• Serve as the first point of contact on Cybersecurity business questions with respect to applicable AI laws
All About You
• Law degree required. Membership to a Bar (if permitted by law). Any additional qualifications (e.g. Master of Laws degree, AI or privacy certifications) considered an asset
• Solid expertise in the EU AI Act and other AI and data protection legal frameworks (e.g. GDPR, CCPA) globally
• Good understanding of AI technologies, incl. Generative AI and fundamental rights considerations.
• Track record advising independently on Artificial Intelligence projects, products or solutions.
• Experience in drafting and negotiating AI and data-driven contract requirements.
• Ability to drive solutions that balance risk and innovation.
• Ability to lead process improvement and collaboration with various types of stakeholders (business, lawyers, data scientists, third parties such as customers and vendors).
• Superior time management, planning, and organizational skills.
• Strong analytic capabilities, and written and oral communication skills.
• Creativity and "can-do" attitude is a must.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering
• Must work well in both team and individual settings.
• Ability to motivate and influence highly skilled professionals to achieve major organizational goals.
