Title and Summary
Senior Platform Engineer OverviewThe MPGS Database Service Delivery team is seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Engineer to solve complex problems, build and maintain our databases, and contribute to Mastercard's database automation and best practices. This role involves administering production, pre-production, UAT, and development database systems, and assisting in the design of the database tier for our global payments solution.

Database Engineering (DBE) supports Mastercard's Business Systems and Operations worldwide. As part of Technology Operations, DBE champions database engineering best practices, governance, and standards at Mastercard. As a Senior Engineer within the Processing Service Delivery team, you will leverage your expertise to deploy and manage various database technologies in test and production environments for global products, including Developer APIs, Digital Checkout, and Card Tokenization.
Education (Preferred):
Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience.
Knowledge/Experience (Preferred):
Strong knowledge of database management: (Installation, creation of new instances, space management, database reorganization and internals, backup and recovery, replication, performance monitoring and troubleshooting, identification of bottlenecks in locks, and waits).
Strong working knowledge of RDBMS, specifically Oracle and PostgreSQL (Required), and NoSQL databases (Preferred) with relevant certifications.
Good understanding and implementation of security standards and best practices for database platforms.
Solid hands-on experience in database tuning and troubleshooting, with a proven track record of resolving complex issues.
Knowledge of Oracle replication implementation (Golden Gate/DataGuard).
Knowledge of Oracle database internals, Oracle database tuning, and SQL tuning.
Knowledge of PostgreSQL administration, patching, upgrades, tuning, and replication (physical and logical). Knowledge of xDB replication, including implementation and troubleshooting, is a significant advantage.
Working knowledge of backup and recovery for Oracle and PostgreSQL.
Knowledge of partitioning and/or sharding concepts.
Knowledge of high availability architectures, including Oracle RAC installations and administration.
Knowledge of multiple database technologies, including Oracle and PostgreSQL. Experience with more than one database technology is ideal.
Understanding of logical and physical data models for structured and unstructured data.
Understanding of Database Engineering's role in supporting business processes.
Ability to participate in cross-functional teams for estimating, application designs, and implementation strategies.
Ability to implement proactive monitoring of all databases to help predict and diagnose problems before they impact application performance or user experience.
Skills/Abilities:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to build awareness and proactively promote DBA's position in support of sound database structures, data governance, and corporate strategies.
Ability to multitask and prioritize efforts effectively.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
Ability to collaborate effectively with team members located in multiple geographies.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal business partners.
