Title and Summary

Senior Software Engineer Overview:
Mastercard is a global technology company behind the world's fastest payments processing network. Mastercard's Commercial Solutions provides capabilities such as expense management, reporting, virtual cards, and acceptance to our issuers, driving visibility and actionable insights. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Commercial Platform Engineering organization in our O'Fallon, Missouri location. This is a hybrid position requiring three days on-site per week.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for development, deployment support, recruiting & mentoring the team, owning the delivery of user stories, and performing code reviews.

Role Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality backend software solutions.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Optimize database queries and schemas for performance and scalability.
• Apply best practices in automated testing, CI/CD, and monitoring.
• Mentor junior engineers through technical guidance and code reviews.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Architects, Product Owners, and Designers.
• Ensure adherence to Mastercard Engineering Principles and security standards.
• Contribute to the Software Engineering Guild by sharing knowledge and best practices.

All About You:
• Strong knowledge of Java technologies (Core Java, Spring Integration, Spring Boot, Hibernate, REST/SOAP web services).
• Strong Oracle Database and SQL skills.
• Hands-on experience with development tools such as Bitbucket, Jenkins, and the Atlassian suite.
• Experience in designing solutions for simplicity, scalability, and future agility.
• Experience in Test-Driven Development (TDD)/Behavior-Driven Development (BDD).
• Strong knowledge of automated build and deployment, continuous integration, and CI/CD Pipelines.
• Familiar with secure coding standards such as OWASP, CWE, and SEI CERT.
• Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and capacity measurement.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor and guide team members.
• Capable of translating user stories into scalable, maintainable backend solutions.
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently in fast-paced environments.
• Experience with Junit, Mockito, and Spring Test.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. O'Fallon, Missouri: $115,000 - $184,000 USD
