General Summary of Position

 

Responsible for supervising technical, logistical, and administrative lab operations to ensure timely and accurate testing and reporting. Offers expert guidance and leadership to staff conducting specialized procedures that aid diagnosis and treatment while monitoring quality control, assurance, and safety programs. Supports departmental goals, follows policies and standards, and meets regulatory requirements.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provides oversight for the specimen journey, including preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic phases.
  • Oversees daily routine laboratory operations on each shift to ensure that quality standards and turnaround time are met.
  • Maintains quality control standards within guidelines.
  • Assists with the selection, training, and performance evaluation of lab team.
  • Performs personnel performance reviews and coaching.
  • Responsible for scheduling employees.
  • Coordinates workflow on a daily basis to ensure timely analysis, reporting of patient samples, and handling the daily/weekly/monthly scheduling, including lab rotations.
  • Maintains established performance and production standards.
  • Monitors test analysis and specimen examination to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Writes and reviews validation protocols, policies, and procedures for manual, automated, and new testing procedures.
  • Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
  • Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • As delegated, manages all Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Inspection (QI), and Quality Control (QC) to ensure laboratory standards and regulations are maintained. Performs CAP proficiency testing and assesses results.
  • Serves as an inspector for internal CAP inspections or participates in inspection preparedness.
  • Ensures lab has adequate inventories of reagents and supplies.

 

Minimal Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in medical technology, histology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science required.

 

Experience

  • 5–7 years experience in an appropriate clinical laboratory setting, including histology and anatomic pathology, required
  • Demonstrated supervisory or management experience, required.

Licenses and Certifications

  • ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist HT or HTL certification, or equivalent, required.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $89,065.00 - USD $162,801.00 /Yr.
