Inpatient & Outpatient Orthopaedic Hip & Knee Physician Assistant / Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

MedStar Health is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) to join our Orthopaedic team, supporting our Total Joint Arthroplasty surgeons. This unique role blends outpatient clinic practice with first-assist responsibilities in the operating room.

Position Highlights

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, normal business hours
• No weekends, no call, no holidays
• Full-time, 1.0 FTE

Practice Overview

• Join a collaborative Orthopaedic team with APPs dedicated to both inpatient and outpatient care.
• Work alongside surgeons, primarily those specializing in hip and knee replacements (Total Joint Arthroplasty).
• Split time between:
• Independent outpatient clinics
• First-assist duties in the OR

Responsibilities

• Serve as a first assist in the operating room for hip and knee replacement procedures.
• Manage independent clinics, evaluating pre- and post-operative patients.
• Providers may rotate with surgeons to additional sites 1–2 days per week, such as McLean, Chevy Chase, or other local clinics. The remainder of the week will be on-site at Georgetown.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
• NP will need first assist certification
• Minimum of 1–2 years of Orthopaedics, Surgery, or first-assist experience preferred
• Must be eligible for DC licensure
• Strong interest in total joint arthroplasty (hip & knee)
• Strong verbal/written communication skills
• Basic computer proficiency
