About the Job

General Summary of Position
Monitors patient electrocardiographic and other basic physiologic/hemodynamic parameters in the Department of Cardiology and/or nursing units. Reports documents heart rhythm changes and performs related maintenance and patient assistance activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Observes patient electrocardiographic and other basic/hemodynamic parameters.
  • Sets-up telemetry units for new admissions from the Emergency Room Intensive Care Unit Operating Room etc. Registers pertinent information in the computer.
  • Reports unusual baseline readings and/or patient heart rhythm variations to appropriate medical/nursing staff members.
  • Documents monitoring information/variations for each assigned patient and shift observed. Completes written summary shift report and distributes as appropriate.
  • Places and removes monitor on patient and sets appropriate alarm parameters in the computer.
  • Assists with the patient billing process by providing appropriate documentation and admits/discharges patient in the computer system as appropriate.
  • Performs 12 lead EKG's on admission of patient and/or STAT.
  • Maintains monitoring equipment such as changing batteries cleaning electrodes etc. Interacts with Biomedical Department related to system/equipment problems.
  • Monitors supply inventory levels and replaces supplies e.g. EKG paper cables alcohol prep etc.
  • Reviews stored information and clears/updates patient historical information as appropriate.
  • Ensures that work environment is clean and organized at all times.
  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education
    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • May require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training such as in anatomy physiology and electrocardiographic interpretation.
    Experience
    • 6 to 12 months experience required
    Licenses and Certifications
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Requires the ability to read and write; and knowledge of grammar and arithmetic including fractions and decimals.
    • May require the use of standard office/medical equipment (i.e. typewriter personal computer data terminal on-line printer calculator telephone facsimile copier sterilizing equipment blood pressure cuff or tables); the preparation comparison or checking of reports records and related data; and basic use of formulas charts tables drawings and knowledge of their application.
    • knowledge of arrhythmias is required and computer skills are preferred.

    This position has a hiring range of

    USD $20.64 - USD $31.30 /Hr.
